Job SummaryWe are seeking an Automotive Controller to join our team at a locally owned automotive group in the Greater South Houston Area (Iowa Colony / Pearland Area). This role is well suited for someone who is hands-on, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and follows through consistently. We are looking for an individual who is not only capable of maintaining day-to-day operations, but also takes pride in accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement, with the potential to grow into a broader leadership role over time.
Responsibilities - Oversee all accounting operations for a franchise dealership, including billing, accounts receivable/payable, general ledger, and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all functions
- Prepare monthly financial statements and ensure timely, accurate reporting in accordance with applicable regulations and company policies
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial requirements, proactively advising leadership on risks and required actions
- Oversee adherence to budgets and financial plans, analyzing variances and supporting ongoing financial forecasting
- Lead and coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring an efficient and well-prepared process
- Partner with dealership leadership to analyze financial performance and provide practical, actionable insights to improve profitability and operational efficiency
- Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and minimize financial risk
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff, building a strong and capable team
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred; equivalent professional experience, formal certifications, or other relevant education and training will also be considered. CPA designation is a plus.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience in the automotive dealership industry, including accounting management experience with responsibility for dealership accounting operations and teams.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Experience managing audits and working with external auditors
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively to non-financial leaders
