What we offer

The Controller (Finance) is a highly skilled and strategic individual that will be responsible for leading all elements of accounting, reporting directly to the VP, Finance. The successful individual will be getting into the weeds on all accounting elements required for our start-up to succeed, including, but not limited to, setting up financial processes and systems. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the General Manager, VP, Finance, and Mattamy Asset Management's Finance team on the establishment of a strong and healthy accounting function for the new business. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, inquisitive, and detail-oriented, has experience in manufacturing environments, and has a strong background in cost accounting, financial accounting, and continuous process improvement.

What you'll do
  • Full accounting ownership, with particular focus on month-end close activities related to cost accounting and gross margin analysis.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across all business units.
  • Support the successful implementation, optimization and ongoing maintenance of a new ERP system.
  • Advise on technical accounting matters and the implementation of policy changes divisionally and company-wide. Advise on accounting and system impacts of new operations, legal entity restructuring, or complex accounting issues.
  • Develop and implement scalable accounting processes, internal controls, and financial systems that support rapid growth and evolving business needs.
  • Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insights that guide strategic decisions, capital planning, and operational performance.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities, ensuring alignment with company goals and operational realities.
  • Ensure regulatory and tax compliance while maintaining accurate, timely, and high-quality financial statements.
  • Create clear, data-driven reporting packages to inform leadership and support business reviews.
  • Support cost accounting processes, including development and maintenance of cost accounting systems and methodologies tailored to advanced manufacturing.
  • Build, develop and mentor a high-performing accounting team.
  • Drive continuous improvement and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across accounting processes.
  • Other duties as required.


What you bring
  • University Degree, with a specialization in Finance or Accounting.
  • CPA Designation.
  • 8+ years of experience with increasing responsibility, including 2+ years of people leadership.
  • Strong background in accounting, preferably in a manufacturing context, with a track record and orientation towards continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience driving the establishment of processes and documentation.
  • Deadline-oriented with strong learning agility and ability to manage competing demands.
  • Technology-savvy finance leader with hands-on experience using ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and data analytics to enable process automation, improve controls, and support scalable growth in a manufacturing environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and mentor a team while fostering a positive and inclusive culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to be hands-on and detail oriented, but also able to think strategically.
  • Inquisitive nature and sound judgment, with the ability to critically analyze situations, problem-solve, and deal with ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current Canadian accounting standards under ASPE.
  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and personal integrity.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in MS Office applications; ability to quickly learn and demonstrate functional competence with financial systems.


Bonus Points
  • Prior experience in manufacturing start-ups, or other fast-paced, evolving environments with a high degree of ownership.
  • Experience using Odoo ERP in a manufacturing or operational environment.
  • Additional relevant degrees and designations are considered an asset, including, but not limited to, MBA, PMP, or similar.
