Position Title: Controller

The Controller plays a crucial role in overseeing accounting operations within a dynamic construction environment. This hands-on position involves managing accounts payable and receivable staff, ensuring payroll accuracy, and delivering comprehensive financial reporting. The Controller is expected to navigate the complexities of job costing while maintaining strong interpersonal relationships across teams. Challenges include balancing multiple projects and adapting to fluctuations in the construction cycle. The ideal candidate will thrive in a practical, team-oriented culture that prioritizes effective leadership and communication.

Controller Responsibilities:
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable staff
  • Oversee payroll processes, averaging $200K weekly
  • Prepare financial reports on a quarterly and ad hoc basis
  • Handle job cost accounting using QuickBooks
  • Coordinate budgeting efforts with the project management team
  • Set up contracts and accounting for various projects
  • Collaborate with a CPA firm on tax-related matters
  • Oversee the profit-sharing program
  • Monitor costs and implement financial controls

Controller Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience at the Controller level
  • Experience in construction accounting
  • Job cost accounting expertise
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks, preferably Desktop
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills
  • Financial reporting experience
  • Payroll oversight capabilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience working with subcontractors is preferred
