Full Job Description
Job Title: Consulting Specialist Location: New York, NY About the role: BSI is hiring a Consulting Specialist - Industrial Hygiene to support projectbased client work throughout the New York City metropolitan area. The majority of the work will support the NYC School Construction Authority, along with additional environmental health and safety projects across the region. This full-time opportunity is ideal for an industrial hygiene or environmental professional with hands-on field experience who is interested in expanding their experience in asbestos investigations, hazardous building materials, and NYC regulatory compliance. The selected candidate will support a variety of IH and EHS projects while working alongside experienced consultants. The long-term goal is to help the individual gain the qualifying experience and credentials needed to become a licensed NYC DEP Asbestos Investigator. Key responsibilities: • Support industrial hygiene projects, including air and noise monitoring, exposure assessments, and development of sampling strategies • Assist with asbestos and hazardous building material surveys under the direction of appropriately licensed team members • Document qualifying asbestos building-survey experience in support of future NYC DEP licensure • Conduct field inspections involving PPE, lockout/tagout, confined spaces, machine guarding, and other workplace hazards • Support hazard communication, chemical safety, and other client EHS programs • Collect, interpret, and organize field data • Prepare clear, client-ready technical reports using Microsoft Word and related software • Deliver in-person safety and regulatory training when needed • Collaborate with internal project teams and clients to support timely project delivery • Travel to client sites throughout the New York City metropolitan area • Support occasional evening or weekend projects, including pre-construction activities and contractor oversight • Work independently in the field and collaboratively as part of a project team Education and experience: • Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, environmental science, chemistry, biology, engineering, architecture, or a related scientific or technical discipline; master's degree strongly preferred • Approximately 2-5 years of experience in industrial hygiene, environmental health and safety, environmental consulting, hazardous building materials, or a related field • Hands-on experience conducting field assessments, sampling, monitoring, inspections, or building surveys • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical reports using Microsoft Word and basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel • Willingness to travel locally and regionally • Willingness to support occasional evening and weekend project needs Preferred qualifications: • Experience supporting asbestos inspections, surveys, air monitoring, project monitoring, or abatement-related projects • Current NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector Certificate • Current NYC DEP Asbestos Investigator Certificate What we offer: BSI offers a competitive salary, group-sponsored health and dental, short-term and long-term disability, a company-matched 401k plan, company paid life insurance, 11 paid holidays and 4 weeks paid time off. The salary for this position can range from $78,500 to $92,000 annually; the advertised salary range reflects the level, scope and responsibilities of the role.
