Job Summary and Qualifications

The Physician Services Group (PSG) is responsible for several lines of business, including Physician Practices, Hospital-based physician services, Urgent Care Services, Graduate Medical Education, and Health 2 You. PSG currently has over 3,000 providers and 800 physician practices. PSG is growing rapidly in the Urgent Care setting, with 90 Urgent Care Clinics currently and over 300 projected by the end of 2018. The Graduate Medical Education program is projected to double in size, to become the largest in the World by the end of 2020 with over 5,000 residents. PSG IT&S will need to handle the demands of such rapid growth. PSG IT&S supports centralized departments supporting the lines of business, such as Financial Services, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Protection and Security, Ethics & Compliance, Quality and Government Programs, Coding Operations and HIM, Ambulatory EHR, Management Services, Marketing and Digital Services, Physician Development, and Practice Operations.

The Consulting Application Engineer delivers on strategic commitments from start to finish for all aspects of the Physician Services Group organization within ITG. This technically focused position is responsible for designing, developing, testing and implementing solutions across the Enterprise. The engineer can quickly learn and make use of existing solutions as well as research and implement new technologies based on identified areas for improvement. They have an in depth understanding of the services provided and direction of the Physician Services Group and can develop relationships throughout the organization to assist in accomplishing its goals for the company. These goals will be achieved by working with cross-functional business teams and utilizing ASP.NET, web front-end technologies, infrastructure automation, and database platforms and tools. The Consulting Application Engineer's main function is to provide technical leadership and expertise during the development, implementation, support and maintenance of software products at PSG.

The Consulting Application Engineer will collaborate with Business Customers, Department Heads, and Project teams, provide leadership regarding application design, as well as support and develop subject matter knowledge for internally developed applications. The Consulting Application Engineer will ensure the effective design, build, deployment, documentation and maintenance of applications against relational databases and other applicable data sources to support end-user processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Build software, automation, and infrastructure that provides services to PSG customers to reduce manual processes and improve organizational efficiency
  • Design and implement solutions that improve deployment quality and velocity, infrastructure resiliency, security, and data availability
  • Provide consulting from perspectives of software engineering, database design, information security, and infrastructure architecture
  • Write code to automate manual operations using appropriate languages and tools
  • Design and implement custom 24x7 monitoring and alerting solutions
  • Create and maintain a strong documentation
  • Research, investigate, and implement new technologies
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Technical

  • Expertise on C# and .NET development. Ability to learn other programming languages as needed
  • Experience in developing and maintaining applications using .NET Core
  • Experience with multiple RDBMS's (MS SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, DB2, MySql, etc.) that includes writing and fine-tuning SQL, developing stored procedures, triggers and functions
  • Extensive experience with database design, data modeling, and query performance tuning
  • Experience in data-layer development, including RESTful API services both as a provider and a consumer oExtensive experience with UX/UI design, including Angular, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS and AJAX
  • Experienced with software development best practices, such as continuous integration, automated testing, design patters, SOLID principles, domain driven design, etc.
  • Experience with batch and shell scripting
  • Experience with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, CCDA, or FHIR
  • Experience with public cloud development methodologies for Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure

Preferred Skills

Technical

  • Knowledge of LINQ and ORM technologies such as Entity Framework, nHibernate and/or LLBL Gen Pro
  • Experience with data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL), SSIS preferred oExperience creating and hosting reporting solutions, SSRS preferred
  • Experience creating thick-client applications using WPF or similar technologies, windows services and console applications
  • Experience creating applications using ASP.NET WebForms.
  • Knowledge and experience with clinical applications (EMR/PPMS), such as eClinical Works, Epic, GE Centricity, NextGen, etc.
  • Seasoned data professional and subject matter expert with a full understanding of data tools and concepts; ability to resolve a wide range of highly-complex issues in creative ways
  • Expertise in healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, CCDA, or FHIR
  • Expertise in public cloud development methodologies for Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure

Soft

  • Demonstrates continual learning and improvement of knowledge and expertise in the health industry data standard as well as industry applications and tools
  • Acts as a mentor and provides direction to colleagues with less experience.
  • Coordinate team work activities and mentor team members to produce defined deliverables.
  • Define and communicate the work assignments and completion criteria to team members, clarify work expectations, monitor activities and report on status.
  • Effectively delegates tasks, and coordinate team activities to achieve the desired goal
  • Ability to create clear and concise documentation on design and operational topics
  • Actively builds strong bonds and relationships with all customers and department heads. Encourages and guides staff to be customer-focused
