This role reports to the assigned line of business Product Director

Our Product Management team is focused on delivering and maintaining best in class insurance products for our business partners that are compliant with state regulations, support strategic goals of the planning units, and are approved by state departments of insurance with the fewest objections as possible. This role is critical to the success in achieving excellence in the management of products! 

As a line of business consultant, you will be responsible for managing the products for your assigned states, planning units, and/or specific product offerings.

Specific examples of responsibilities include:

  • Creation and maintenance of Rates and Rules Manuals
  • Filing creation and management
  • ISO monitoring and product updates associated with ISO adoption
  • Tracking and compliance of manuscript endorsements[MG1]
  • Form management including revisions in response to regulatory or compliance issues
  • Respond to product specific DOI objections
  • Manage form updates related to regulatory changes
  • Support Business Units as subject matter product expert for assigned LOBs
  • Maintain products to ensure alignment with competitors/market parity
  • Monitor and maintain expert level knowledge of filing requirements
  • Provide consultation as a product SME for business partners across the organization.
  • Share market trends and competitor offerings with business partners

Maintaining deep knowledge of the assigned line of business including competitor activities, ISO products and changes, and an understanding of the differences between admitted and non-admitted business is required.

Looking for commercial and/or E&S property experience (E&S property experience is preferred).

Knowledge and experience in product related tools including but not limited to: State Filings, AM BestCore. Verisk.com, Mozart, Reference Connect, and ODEN is preferred.

Job Description Summary

As a Consultant, youll lead new product and program projects, including recommending development of additional features/capabilities for existing products and programs. Well count on you to effectively design, develop, implement and manage mid-range, moderately to highly sophisticated projects. Youll have opportunities to provide guidance and make recommendations on growth and profitability in the assigned products or programs. In addition, youll ensure the maintenance of internal and external technical underwriting resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes pricing, design features and processes associated with new products/programs. May review reserving with actuarial.

  • Provides guidance to all functional areas related to product/program design and implementation. Makes recommendations based on in-depth functional knowledge and opportunities for improvement.

  • Provides high-level, strategic input on key initiatives onproduct/program strategy and profitability. Coordinates strategy with managers/directors in affected underwriting divisions/departments.

  • Leads the process of analyzing market information on competitors. Proactively identifies product opportunities. Leads new business development and implementation projects. Partners with Underwriting to develop standards and guidelines.

  • Provides market analysis tools and global data to the regions and departments. Acts as a technical specialist on product/program issues.

  • Assists in exploring and evaluating new product performance tools and technology enhancements. Coordinatesprocesschange improvements. May provide input to appropriate functional areas to develop business specifications.

  • Coordinatesimplementation of product/program recommendations. Initiates action plans to maintain and improve product/program performance. Ensures underwriting guidelines align with rate plan changes and corporate strategy.

  • Collaborates to design and implement product/program strategy and communication plans throughout the organization. Assures effective communication to appropriate leaders and functional areas of the organization.

  • Finds opportunities to work with other business partners while developing cross functional knowledge in claims,marketing, pricing, operations, underwriting, actuarial, legal and finance.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports toDirector. May have direct reports and may also be responsible for virtual/project teams.

Typical Skillsand Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies such as insurance, actuarial science, mathematics, risk management, economics, finance, accounting, business administration or related field. Bachelors degree or graduate studies preferred. Insurance licenses or industry designations such as CPCU, ARM, ASLI, AU, INS etc. preferred.

Experience: Six years of experience in personal/commercial lines insurance including underwriting, marketing product management or comparable area preferred. Previous product management experience preferred. Excess & Surplus/Specialty Lines insurance experience desirable.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficient knowledge of analytical tools, core business functions, underwriting policies and practices, performance measurement techniques, systems, competitors,customersand regulatory agencies required. Knowledge of related pricing, marketing, insurance models/contracts and financial analysis necessary. Evidence of growing responsibility and exposure to research,analysisand development as well as standards and practices for the selection, evaluation and pricing of product/program. Demonstrated responsible decision making. Skilled in the use of analytic tools. Ability to drive for results, deal with ambiguity, communicate well and to understand strategic objectives. High level of verbal and written communication skills necessary to consult on communication planning. Ability to prioritize and manage long-term projects, as well as quickturn aroundassignments. Strong interpersonalskills. Ability to work in committees and act as project lead or participant.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
