ERM is seeking a motivated Consultant, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to join our team in Hartford, CT or Boston, MA. In this role, you will support environmental compliance, sustainability, and health & safety projects across industries including energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

You’ll gain hands-on experience across environmental and safety disciplines while building a strong foundation for long-term consulting growth.

What You'll Bring:

Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, environmental science, safety, business, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 2 –3+ years of EHS, regulatory compliance, or sustainability experience (industry or consulting)

  • Experience implementing or maintaining EHS management systems

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting

  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and data tracking tools

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

  • Local candidates preferred.

  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Preferred

  • Certifications such as CSP or CIH, or interest in pursuing them

  • Consulting experience and ability to build client relationships

  • Experience with corporate H&S strategy, safety culture, or serious injury/fatality prevention

  • Familiarity with environmental permitting and regulatory programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development, implementation, and improvement of EHS management systems

  • Conduct EHS compliance audits and manage corrective actions

  • Perform risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses

  • Provide onsite EHS compliance support at client facilities

  • Develop and implement environmental programs (air, waste, stormwater, wastewater, and spill prevention)

  • Lead or support industrial hygiene and exposure assessments

  • Translate regulatory requirements into practical, scalable solutions

  • Manage multiple projects to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations

  • Collaborate with ERM’s global technical network to solve complex challenges

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships that support repeat business

  • Contribute to the growth of ERM’s EHS and Sustainable Operations practice

  • Develop innovative solutions for complex EHS challenges and regulatory issues. 

  • Design and direct corporate H&S strategies across diverse industries. 

  • Manage projects to meet scope, budget, and schedule while exceeding client expectations. 

  • Develop and deliver training. 

  • Participate in EHS audits. 

  • Build and nurture client relationships to drive repeat business and expand ERM’s market presence. 

For the Consultant, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) position, the anticipated annual base pay is $80,000–$100,700 (USD). Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay subject to the sole discretion of ERM and its policies and procedures (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
