Title: Consultant - Energy Generation Services

Location: Remote - United States

Salary: Base: $150,000-$165,000 + Bonus

Position Overview

We are seeking a senior-level engineering consultant to support planning, development, and execution of utility-scale power generation projects. This role sits within a Planning & Advisory consulting environment and provides technical leadership, analytical support, and project management across the full lifecycle of generation assets.

The position plays a key role in guiding strategic decisions related to generation technology selection, Integrated Resource Planning (IRP), procurement, construction oversight, and long-term asset performance.

Key Responsibilities

Generation Strategy & Planning
  • Lead feasibility studies, resource assessments, and long-term generation planning initiatives
  • Support Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) with technology performance analysis and scenario modeling

Technology Evaluation & Selection
  • Evaluate and recommend generation technologies based on regulatory, market, and operational considerations
  • Define expected performance across various configurations and operating environments

Cost Estimation & Financial Analysis
  • Develop capital and operating cost models across multiple generation platforms
  • Support business case development and investment decision-making

Contracting & Procurement
  • Support RFP development, bid evaluations, and contract negotiations
  • Provide technical input for PPA, EPC, OEM, and O&M agreements

Construction & Execution Oversight
  • Serve as technical advisor and Owner's Engineer during construction
  • Ensure adherence to scope, schedule, quality, and regulatory requirements

Operations & Asset Performance
  • Advise on commissioning, performance optimization, and asset management strategies
  • Support lifecycle planning, including decommissioning strategies

Project Leadership
  • Manage projects from initiation through completion
  • Deliver projects on time, within budget, and aligned with client expectations

Continuous Improvement
  • Develop and deepen subject matter expertise in generation technologies and markets
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends

Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required (Mechanical Engineering or related technical field preferred)
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years of directly related experience in power generation or utility-scale energy projects
  • Strong foundation in thermodynamics, generation system performance, and plant operations
  • Engineering design and/or construction experience on generation projects strongly preferred
  • Deep technical knowledge of generation technologies, including:
    • Combined Cycle
    • Simple Cycle
    • Reciprocating Engines
    • Coal
    • Emerging technologies such as Hydrogen and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
  • Experience with regulatory frameworks, permitting, and grid interconnection
  • Familiarity with renewables, battery storage, DERs, and energy efficiency as planning resources
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Business development experience a plus
