Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Construction, the Construction Supervisor supervises the inspection of contract construction work related to water pipelines, underground facilities, tanks, reservoirs, pump stations, buildings, and other capital improvements; performs other related work as required.

Specific Responsibilities
• The incumbent is distinguished by his/her direct responsibility for coordinating, reviewing and evaluating the work of Engineering Technicians and Construction Coordinators involved primarily in main work.
• Individual judgment is required in approving construction and material in order to ensure that the job conforms to plans and specifications.
• The Construction Supervisor has authority to stop work on a particular phase of construction or reject materials which do not conform to plans and specifications and to require corrective measures to be taken on unsatisfactory work.
• Plans, organizes, directs, reviews and evaluates the work of staff dealing with contract construction related primarily to water pipeline systems
• Inspects construction projects; confers with inspection and engineering personnel and with the contractor's field representatives to ensure work and materials comply with plans and specifications, safety precautions, and proper establishment of grade and location; ensures that necessary documents are submitted before authorizing release of Company-furnished materials
• Reviews progress and cost estimates of contract projects
• Prepares monthly records of construction completed
• Maintains liaison with public agencies regarding conformance of construction to the pertinent ordinances and codes

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques; thorough knowledge of methods materials, tools, and equipment used in the construction of steel, plastic, asbestos, cement and concrete pipeline and related appurtenances
• Applicable standards and specifications
• Knowledge of methods and significance of testing samples of concrete and other construction materials as they relate to construction work; surveying principles and practices
• California Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Construction Safety Orders. Skill in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, construction plans, specifications, and work orders.
• Ability to make mathematical calculations relating to construction.
• Good written and oral communication skills.

Required Education and Experience

Four years experience in the water construction field or an associate degree with two years experience in the water construction field or a Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management.

Other Requirements

Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
