Position Summary

We are looking for a motivated Construction Manager with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture to join our SIRIS team, supporting a healthcare modernization project in Montgomery, Alabama (onsite). The Architect will report to the Program Manager and collaborate with and assist VA client staff by providing data, generating reports, and serving as a representative for the client on major construction projects.

The Architect will serve as an owners representative supporting the VA Medical Center to ensure projects are designed and executed in accordance with approved scopes of work, applicable codes, VA standards, contract requirements, schedules, and project budgets.

  • An experienced construction professional with Owner's Representative experience who understands how to protect the owner's interests while maintaining productive relationships with contractors and project teams.
  • Someone with federal construction experience, preferably with exposure to healthcare, renovation, or infrastructure modernization projects.
  • A highly organized and detail-oriented professional who can identify issues early, take ownership of resolutions, and effectively manage multiple project priorities.
  • A strong communicator who is comfortable working directly with owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Someone who can confidently evaluate cost, schedule, quality, and construction risk and communicate potential impacts to project leadership.
  • A professional who brings strong knowledge of construction practices and can work independently in the field while maintaining a high standard of documentation and accountability.
  • Comfortable coordinating with contractors, project teams, and facility stakeholders.
  • Able to identify risks, resolve issues, and keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Understands construction impacts in an occupied facility, including safety, access, utilities, and phasing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day construction activities, including field inspections, construction observation, schedule monitoring, quality control, safety compliance, and deficiency resolution.
  • Manage construction administration activities, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, testing and inspections, and project documentation.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents to ensure work is progressing in accordance with project requirements.
  • Monitor project schedule and cost performance, including budget tracking, cost estimating, change evaluation, and identification of potential project impacts.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities and support successful project closeout, including as-built documentation and final completion requirements.
  • Support renovation and healthcare infrastructure modernization projects, coordinating complex construction activities while maintaining project continuity and minimizing disruption to ongoing operations.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with project stakeholders and provide accurate reporting on project progress, risks, costs, schedule, quality, and outstanding issues.

Given that the work takes place within an operational hospital, Construction professionals must consider the following:

  • Ensuring patient safety
  • Implementing infection control measures
  • Coordinating utility shutdowns
  • Managing noise and dust control
  • Developing phasing plans to maintain uninterrupted hospital services

Education & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited University.
  • Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum six (6) years of professional experience in architecture, engineering, or construction management, with experience in both design and construction.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal codes, regulations, environmental requirements, and historic preservation requirements.

Certifications

  1. OSHA 30: Required
  1. CCM, PMP, PE, or equivalent construction management credentials preferred

Experience

  • Experience supporting regulated environments (federal, healthcare, or institutional) is highly desirable
  • Candidates may be asked to provide examples or documentation of completed projects demonstrating relevant experience

Additional Requirements

  • Familiarity with construction practices, quality assurance, scheduling, cost management, and change management
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in administrative, financial, and compliance matters
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational communication skills

  • Full-time onsite work at an active construction site and office environment
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use standard office equipment
