Construction Inspector - U.S. Coast Guard - Baltimore, MD (On-Site, Full Time)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Construction Inspector (CI) to provide full-time, on-site inspection and documentation services for a major U.S. Coast Guard infrastructure recapitalization project. The CI will monitor daily construction activities, verify compliance with contract documents, support contract administration, and maintain detailed project records. This position serves as an advisor to the Government's project team and does not direct contractor means or methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily on-site inspections of mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, and architectural work.
  • Document progress through Daily Construction Reports, photos, and a bound daily diary.
  • Review schedules, submittals, test reports, payment requests, and certified payrolls.
  • Track field tests, verify quantities, and maintain organized project files.
  • Participate in meetings, progress reviews, and final inspections; assist with punch lists.
  • Identify non-compliant work and report issues to the COR/PM.
  • Conduct monthly labor interviews and submit required documentation.
  • Verify accuracy of contractor as-built drawings and O&M manuals.


Tools & Equipment
  • All required equipment-including laptop, camera, PPE, measuring tools, and office supplies-will be provided.


Candidates must meet one of the following:
  • 10+ years construction experience (QA/QC, superintendent, safety, or management) with strong reporting and computer skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field + 5 years construction experience; PE, PMP, or QA/QC certification preferred.
  • Prior experience as a Construction Inspector on a U.S. Coast Guard project within the last 10 years.


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, climb, stoop, lift 50 lbs, and work in tunnels, basements, roofs, ladders, and adverse weather. Must tolerate noise, dust, confined spaces, and active construction environments.


Additional Requirements
  • Professional conduct and adherence to all USCG facility rules.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

    • Fire Protection Systems (NFPA 13 & 72)

    • Communications & Security (IT, Nurse Call/Code Blue, Imaging & IDS/PACS)
    • Transport/Equipment (Patient Lifts, Elevators, Transport Systems, Pneumatic Tube, Food Service, Sterilizers, Mortuary, & Laboratory)
    • Welding Inspection
    • Painting and Metalizing Inspection
    • Environmental HAZWOPER, site sampling


Pay Range: $110,000 - $120,000/year depending on experience

Location: Baltimore, MD

Working Hours: Normal Work Hours - Monday - Friday (anticipate 40 per week).
