We are seeking an experienced
Conflicts Counsel to join a legal operations and compliance team supporting the firm's conflicts and new business intake functions. This role is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and resolving conflicts of interest, advising on professional responsibility matters, and supporting the intake process by preparing and reviewing related legal documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, intellectually curious, knowledgeable in conflicts rules, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest related to new clients, new matters, and attorney lateral hires.
- Collaborate with attorneys and business professionals to identify, evaluate, and resolve legal and business conflicts.
- Support the new business intake process by reviewing submissions for accuracy and completeness.
- Draft and review conflict waivers, engagement letters, and outside counsel guidelines.
- Respond to attorney and staff inquiries regarding conflicts, intake procedures, waivers, and professional responsibility matters.
- Ensure conflicts documentation is accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with firm policies.
- Assist with the implementation and continuous improvement of conflicts and intake processes.
- Work closely with legal and administrative teams to facilitate timely matter openings while ensuring compliance with applicable ethical standards.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in legal conflicts analysis or a related conflicts and new business intake role.
- Strong knowledge of legal ethics, conflicts of interest rules, and professional responsibility standards.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience working with legal conflicts and intake management systems is preferred.
Work Environment
- Hybrid work environment with the flexibility to work remotely while maintaining the ability to report to a local office as business needs require.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary to support operational demands.
- Primarily office-based work with minimal physical demands.
Travel
- Occasional travel may be required, up to 10%.
Compensation
- Salary range: $190,000 - $210,000 annually (where applicable), based on experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
