The Opportunity

Join a team responsible for maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and governance of a large-scale enterprise technology environment supporting critical global missions. As a Configuration Management Specialist, you will play a key role in establishing and maintaining configuration baselines, managing change across enterprise systems, and ensuring hardware, software, and configuration data remain accurate throughout the technology lifecycle.

These roles require multiple experience levels-from professionals beginning their careers in configuration management to senior technical leaders responsible for enterprise configuration strategy and governance. Successful candidates will collaborate with engineering, operations, cybersecurity, and service management teams to improve configuration accuracy, support controlled system changes, and maintain reliable configuration data that enables secure and efficient IT operations.

Responsibilities

Depending on experience and level, responsibilities may include:
  • Maintain hardware, software, and configuration records throughout the enterprise technology lifecycle.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce configuration management processes, standards, and documentation.
  • Maintain configuration baselines, logical system relationships, and enterprise configuration data.
  • Support Configuration Management Database (CMDB) administration and ensure the accuracy of configuration items (CIs) and their relationships.
  • Track hardware and software assets, software license assignments, maintenance agreements, warranties, and lifecycle status using ServiceNow or other enterprise management platforms.
  • Monitor and document infrastructure changes across physical, virtual, and cloud environments.
  • Prepare and coordinate change requests, impact analyses, implementation plans, and supporting documentation for Change Advisory Board (CAB) or Change Control Board (CCB) review.
  • Perform configuration audits, asset reconciliations, and compliance reviews to ensure enterprise configuration accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain topology diagrams, system documentation, standard operating procedures, and configuration standards.
  • Partner with Service Desk, Infrastructure, Engineering, Asset Management, and Cybersecurity teams to maintain accurate configuration and operational data.
  • Analyze configuration trends, identify process improvement opportunities, and develop reporting and performance metrics.
  • Support DevSecOps initiatives through configuration management practices and integration with automated deployment pipelines.
  • Senior-level professionals may lead enterprise configuration governance, mentor junior staff, establish configuration policies, and oversee configuration management strategy across multiple programs.


Required Qualifications

  • Active Secret security clearance
  • Experience supporting IT configuration management, systems administration, enterprise operations, asset management, or infrastructure support.
  • Familiarity with configuration management principles, change management processes, and configuration baselines.
  • Experience maintaining technical documentation, system inventories, and configuration records.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required Government security clearance.


Desired Qualifications
  • Experience administering or supporting ServiceNow CMDB, Asset Management, Discovery, or IT Service Management (ITSM) modules.
  • Experience with enterprise Configuration Management Databases (CMDBs).
  • Familiarity with ITIL configuration, asset, and change management best practices.
  • Experience preparing documentation and presentations for Change Advisory Boards (CAB) or Change Control Boards (CCB).
  • Knowledge of hardware and software lifecycle management, software licensing, and asset reconciliation.
  • Experience with infrastructure discovery tools and configuration compliance reporting.
  • Familiarity with hybrid enterprise environments, including on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with automation and DevSecOps technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, Git, CI/CD pipelines, SonarQube, or related tools.
  • Experience supporting Federal Government or Department of State enterprise IT environments.
  • Relevant certifications such as ITIL Foundation, ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA), ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS), CompTIA Security+, or other configuration management, cloud, or systems administration certifications.

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
