Conceptual Design Electrical Engineer SR to support our client, Southern Company, in Waynesboro, Georgia.
This senior-level engineering position will support the planning, conceptual design, development, and execution of electrical engineering projects associated with generating plant systems and equipment. The successful candidate will have extensive electrical engineering design experience and the ability to independently manage complex technical assignments with limited supervision.
The position will be responsible for supporting electrical component replacement designs, developing engineering documentation, preparing drawings and calculations, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and providing technical direction to engineers, designers, and drafters.
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter who combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with excellent project execution, communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership capabilities.
RequirementsKey ResponsibilitiesElectrical Engineering & Design- Assist with the development and execution of electrical component replacement designs for generating plant applications.
- Develop and review project scope documents, engineering schedules, budgets, and cost estimates.
- Prepare, review, and provide technical direction for electrical engineering drawings and design documentation.
- Develop and review:
- Single-line diagrams
- Elementary diagrams
- Wiring diagrams
- Electrical layouts
- Circuitry designs
- Engineering calculations
- Equipment and component replacement packages
- Apply established electrical engineering principles, standards, and design practices throughout project development.
- Evaluate existing electrical systems and develop appropriate engineering solutions for modifications and replacement projects.
- Support conceptual engineering activities associated with large and technically complex generating plant projects.
Technical Leadership- Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers, designers, and drafters.
- Review engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and other technical deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate engineering activities across multiple disciplines to support successful project execution.
- Exercise significant independent judgment in resolving technical issues and making engineering decisions.
- Consult with engineering management when appropriate while independently managing assigned technical responsibilities.
- Help ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable project requirements, design criteria, quality expectations, and schedules.
Project Planning & Execution- Assist with establishing engineering scopes, schedules, budgets, and estimates.
- Plan, organize, prioritize, and execute engineering assignments with limited supervision.
- Support multiple project activities while maintaining attention to safety, quality, schedule, cost, and technical accuracy.
- Identify potential technical challenges and recommend practical solutions.
- Support projects throughout the engineering lifecycle, from conceptual development through implementation.
Plant & Field Support- Provide engineering support for generating plant projects and equipment modifications.
- Assist with system checkout, commissioning, and startup activities when required.
- Coordinate with plant personnel to understand existing conditions, operational requirements, and project constraints.
- Resolve design-related questions that may arise during installation or implementation.
- Build effective working relationships with plant staff, design engineering personnel, project teams, and other stakeholders.
Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination- Communicate directly with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, consultants, and outside vendors.
- Review vendor technical information and coordinate engineering requirements.
- Develop productive vendor relationships that support overall project success.
- Communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering program is required.
Experience- Minimum of 10 years of related electrical engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience applying electrical engineering design principles to complex projects.
- Experience providing technical direction for the preparation of engineering drawings, design details, and calculations.
- Experience independently managing significant engineering assignments with limited supervision.
- Experience supporting large engineering or capital projects.

- Professional Engineer (PE) license

- Experience with ETAP software and electrical system calculations
- Experience using AutoCAD
- Experience using CAD Overlay
- Generating plant electrical modification or component replacement experience
- Startup, checkout, commissioning, or field engineering experience

Ideal Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate will be a seasoned Electrical Engineer with
10+ years of progressive engineering experience who is comfortable taking ownership of complex design assignments.
Candidates with experience in
power generation, utility electrical systems, generating plants, nuclear or conventional generation facilities, or other heavy industrial environments may be particularly well aligned with the responsibilities of this position.
The strongest candidates will demonstrate a combination of hands-on electrical design experience, technical leadership, independent decision-making, project execution, and the ability to work effectively with plant personnel and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
