What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Computing Infrastructure Engineer.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

As a senior technical IT professional and Technical Spearhead, you will be the go-to expert for secure computing infrastructure supporting HAL, SFN, DOE-IN, and OGA SCI networks. You will set the technical standard for compliant operations by developing and maintaining clear, actionable policy and procedure documentation, and by providing hands-on expertise across Top Secret systems. You will work side-by-side with internal departments, national labs, and government agencies to enable mission outcomes, maintain strong relationships with DOE and oversight organizations, and help shape the technical direction, structure, and execution of IT services for HSO IT customers. You will also drive consistent achievement of established Service Level Agreements (SLAs) by bringing organization, rigor, and technical leadership that elevates team performance and service delivery.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Serve as the technical lead and primary escalation points guiding the team through complex issues, establishing consistent technical approaches, and reinforcing disciplined execution against defined processes and service standards.
  • Coordinate and interface with customers, suppliers, and domain experts such as cyber, networking, software, and desktop personnel to align requirements, remove blockers, and deliver secure, supportable solutions.
  • Apply systematic, disciplined, and quantizable engineering and life cycle management techniques and processes to design, deploy, and sustain integrated information systems hardware for mission-enabled or direct mission deployment and production.
  • Perform hardware systems analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting, repair and recovery, disaster recovery, software installations, systems OS and software applications upgrades and security patches, vulnerability management, performance tuning, hardware upgrades and resource optimization, maintenance of user accounts, and training users.
  • Perform technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure, and translate findings into practical standards, improvements, and repeatable practices for the broader team.

Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must work onsite.

Salary Range

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. (Associates degree plus 4 years, or no degree plus 8 years of relevant experience).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computing hardware peripherals and their authorized use on Top Secret computer systems. (HAL, SFN, DOE-IN accredited networks, and OGA SCI networks).
  • Demonstrated IT leadership experience, including managing teams and collaborating across organizations to drive direction and deliver solutions.
  • Proficient in ITSM ticketing tools, metrics analysis, trend interpretation, report generation, and team leadership to drive improved ITSM outcomes.
  • Active DOE Q-level (or DoD Top Secret equivalent) security clearance and active SCI-level clearance.


Qualifications We Desire

  • Strong track record of leading teams in environments involving both peers and direct reports.
  • Windows & Linux administration at scale (e.g., Windows Server/AD/GPO; RHEL)
  • Scripting/automation: PowerShell and/or Python (minimum: ability to automate repeatable ops tasks)
  • Proven experience in authoring Policy and Procedure documentation.
  • Enterprise identity: Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, PKI/cert management basics
  • STIG / hardening compliance: DISA STIGs, SCAP, config baselines, audit artifacts
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with other departments, national laboratories, and government agencies to achieve mission objectives.
  • Active CompTIA Security+ or (ISC)² CISSP certification.
  • Experience in systems administration.
  • Knowledge of Sandia Field Intelligence Element (FIE) operations.
  • Hands-on experience with cybersecurity tools such as Tenable Security Center.
  • Established working relationships with DOE oversight entities (DOE/IN, Sandia Field Office, NNSA, Office of Enforcement).
  • Experience delivering training and serving as a subject matter expert (SME) on relevant programs and systems.
  • Background in Emergency Management.

The Field Intelligence Element (FIE) performs high-impact, national security work for a broad segment of the Intelligence Community (IC). As part of the FIE Operations team, the Information Technology Services department enables the reliable and timely delivery of secure IT products and services to satisfy the unique requirements of the IC. Our IT products and services include servers, virtual environments, desktops, networking, storage and applications.
