Summary

A computer systems engineer in the Computer Systems and Cyber Security group is responsible for the integration and maintenance of core hardware and software infrastructure and services used by training devices. Core responsibilities will include the development of installation and secure configuration procedures for hypervisors (e.g. Hyper-V, VMware, etc.), operating systems (Linux and Windows), frameworks (such as .NET), network switches, and KVMs, as well as COTS and custom developed applications. Other responsibilities will include development and integration of standardized embedded solutions using various interfacing protocols. Developed products will provide a consistent, stable, and secure environment to support simulation software solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development of reference solutions to maximize efficiency and create a consistent simulation environment

  • Computer system setup (includes hardware and software installation and troubleshooting)

  • Support of R26D project and innovation initiatives

  • Assist in the design and implementation of the most efficient solution in accordance with defined requirements.

  • Basic understanding of configuration management systems and large-scale software development.

  • Assist application engineers as required.

  • Coordinate and review technical/operational deliverables prior to submission.

  • Project Team Meetings (Weekly meetings with assigned staff).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • B.S. degree in appropriate engineering discipline (preferably Computer Science or Computer Engineering)

  • Minimum of eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  • Working knowledge of DoD IA regulations

  • Security + or equivalent IA certification preferred

  • Prior experience in operating system setup and updates to apply patches to mitigate Information Assurance Vulnerabilities.

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supporting DoD contracts

  • Experience working with multiple types of operating systems. (Linux, Windows)

  • Experience writing detailed operating system, and application installation instructions

  • Experience with operating system level setup of computers to implement cyber security controls and apply patches to eliminate vulnerabilities.

  • Experience setting up up and securing network hardware (ie switches, NATs, routers etc)

  • Experience researching and installing boundary defense mechanisms such as firewalls, network Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), routers, and managed switches.

  • Experience researching and installing EPO virus protection software and firewalls

  • Experience reviewing program requirements and define the steps needed for meeting them. Including applicable Information Assurance regulations.

  • Experience applying computer changes to comply with DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)

  • Work closely with Integration Specialists assigned to programs to define required tasks to be accomplished to meet contract requirements.

Security Responsibilities

Must complywith all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Work is performed in an environment where irritants such as noise from telephones, temperature and lighting variations may exist, but there is little chance of injury, accident or occupational health problems.

Works at job activities that require sitting, standing or walking for short periods throughout the day and focused visual concentration or focused listening

Moderate to high levels of stress, associated with technical, schedule, and customer issues are to be expected with this position. Extended work hours and possible 2nd and 3rd shift assignments are likely to be encountered.

  • Must be able to travel CONUS and to International sites
