Computer Engineer

Purpose:
  • Valkyrie Enterprises is seeking a Computer Engineer to support the design, integration, and operation of real-time laboratory test systems in our Huntsville, AL engineering facilities.
  • The ideal candidate has experience working with hardware/software integration, real-time operating environments, and laboratory test equipment.

Job Description:
  • Support the design and development of real-time test and simulation systems.
    Integrate hardware components, embedded systems, and laboratory equipment with real-time software environments.
  • Configure and operate real-time system frameworks, test executives, and simulation tools.
  • Develop and maintain software used for system control, data collection, and diagnostic functions.
  • Integrate high-speed I/O devices such as PCIe cards into Linux or real-time operating systems.
  • Troubleshoot system-level issues involving hardware, software, and interfaces.
  • Assist with test planning, execution, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams (hardware, software, test, systems).
  • Maintain system documentation, configuration records, and lab procedures.
  • Coordinate with vendors and customers for equipment, technical support, and system integration.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and at least 8 years of experience in computer engineering.
  • Must have experience with hardware/software integration or real-time systems development.
  • Must be proficient in Linux systems.
  • Must have programming experience with C/C++ or similar compiled languages.
  • Must have the ability to debug hardware/software interoperability issues.
  • Must have strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Must have the ability to document designs, procedures, and technical results.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with real-time operating systems or simulation environments, preferred.
  • Experience using tools such as GDB, Git, and VS Code (or similar IDEs), preferred.
  • Familiarity with integrating instrumentation or test equipment in lab environments, preferred.
  • Experience with high-speed I/O interfaces (PCIe, Ethernet, etc.), preferred.

Security Requirements:
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Travel Requirements:
  • Minimal Travel; 10% or less
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Able to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another

  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds
