Job Description:We are searching for the best talent for a Compound Logistics Scientistto be in La Jolla, CA.Purpose:We are seeking a Compound Logistics and Sample Management Scientist within the Discovery Technologies and Molecular Pharmacology group.
The Therapeutics Discovery organization is continuing to build the key scientific expertise to bring ground-breaking new medicines to patients; we invest in medicinal chemistry, screening, and pharmacology, and in the computational and data science fields that inspire and inform them.
The Compound Logistics Scientist will coordinate the inventory of research compounds and day-to-day sample management workflows to support global research initiatives. They will drive innovation by assisting team members and contributing to sample management process improvements and novel automated and manual workflows. The successful candidate demonstrates a quality-focused mindset, critical thinking, and adaptability, maintaining a dedication to professional growth within the evolving field of sample management, compound logistics, and laboratory automation.
You will be responsible for:- Assist with coordinating and providing day-to-day operational support for Sample Logistics and Inventory Management, including registering, weighing, storing, maintaining inventory, and shipping research compounds (internal and external).
- Operate integrated, off-the-shelf automated liquid handling and sample management instruments to fulfill Compound Logistics orders.
- Ensure instruments meet quality control specifications and are properly maintained and documented.
- Manage inventory and stock lists for device and sample management consumables, ensuring availability and identifying alternatives as needed.
- Support the Controlled Substance Program Manager with compliance and audit-readiness activities to meet DEA requirements.
- Maintain accurate, compliant documentation and records in accordance with regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures.
- Support workflow analyses; troubleshoot routine automation workstation and integration issues; and provide technical input through written reports and oral presentations.
- Manage multiple initiatives concurrently and meet tight timelines.
- Partner with assay automation, assay development, and cell culture teams to identify and implement lean process improvements that enhance quality, scalability, and efficiency across sample management operations.
- Stay current on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in laboratory automation through continuous learning and professional development.
Qualifications / Requirements:Education:- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in STEM, Life Sciences, or equivalent is required.
Required:- 0-2 years of industry experience in compound logistics, sample management, integrated laboratory automation, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience assisting with automated compound logistics workflows using integrated, off-the-shelf devices and task/workflow scheduling software.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze small data sets, troubleshoot issues, and propose solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present sample management concepts and findings to diverse audiences.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage documentation and inventory and follow standard operating procedures.
- Demonstrated growth mindset and commitment to continuous learning; stays current on emerging trends and technologies in sample management, compound logistics, and laboratory automation.
Preferred: - Hands-on experience with robotic liquid handlers (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Agilent, or equivalent) and/or integration/scheduling software (e.g., HighRes Biosolutions Cellario, Thermo Scientific Momentum, or equivalent).
- Developing knowledge of laboratory automation and compound processing/tracking, including experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and/or Laboratory Execution Systems (LES).
- Experience with, or participation in, a Controlled Substances Management program or similar regulatory licensing program (e.g., DSCSA, RDRC, NRC/FDA).
The anticipated base pay range for this position in the US is $76,000 to $126,000 per year.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
