Full Job Description
Position: Compositor - Senior

Hiring Range: $111,800 to $123,500/year for a 40 hour work week

Project Contract: Mid-July start - 2 month-contract

POSITION PURPOSE

The Senior Compositor is responsible for delivering high-quality shots in a quick and efficient manner, with minimal guidance and support. They will exhibit a positive/calm demeanour and maintain morale levels during peak production periods. They will proactively ask about quality expectations, and deliver all tasks to high standards for every stage of delivery within the required timeframe.

In addition, Senior Compositors will assist their Lead and Compositing Supervisor in identifying and flagging potential issues for their shots, which may impact sequences or shows as a whole.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take direction from the Compositing Supervisor, Lead & VFX supervisor to composite any shot to a high creative and technical standard, with a fast turnaround, and minimal support
  • Apply client notes to all comp shots with minimal guidance
  • Accurately assess and prioritize their workload, and communicate time requirements to the Comp Coordinator, Lead & Supervisor
  • Proactively communicate with artists in upstream departments to ensure they will receive what they need to deliver their workload. This includes starting a shot understanding the required elements, and requesting what they need with help from the Lead
  • Take a pragmatic approach to problem-solving -- communicating with other artists on the team to find the best solution; Trying to help themselves before asking others.
  • Proactively contribute to discussions to help less experienced artists complete their work.
  • Autonomously complete one-off shots when delegated from the Lead Compositor
  • Communicate successes and challenges faced by the team to the Compositing Supervisor
  • Suggest workflow, methodology and template improvements to the Compositing Lead
  • Ensure continuity is upheld across the shots and sequences they are assigned
  • Offer guidance and mentoring for junior to mid-level compositors
  • Attend dailies, reviews, and team meetings


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years' experience in compositing digital VFX for film & high-end streaming projects
  • Proven experience solving challenging Compositing shots
  • Excellent attention to detail when finalizing, approving or quality-controlling shots
  • Ability to balance quick turnaround while achieving a high degree of aesthetic quality


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technical skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Compositing workflows in Nuke, and how to make aesthetically pleasing and technically sound photorealistic imagery.
  • Strong aptitude for technical workflow challenges between departments, industry-standard conventions, and automation tools.
  • Thorough understanding of photography, composition, lighting & physics.


Core skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and deal with competing priorities and projects
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and applications
  • Ability to teach new techniques and apply new approaches to help the Compositing team as a whole
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm during peak production periods and maintain the morale of the Compositing team.
