Full Job Description
About the Role

We're hiring a Compliance Manager to protect the operational integrity of Modern Construction Services. As we expand into new states, the volume and complexity of licensing requirements, certifications, contract obligations, and compliance portals have increased significantly. This is a newly created role designed to ensure nothing falls through the cracks - and to build the systems and controls that prevent issues before they occur.

You will sit at the intersection of legal, finance, and operations. You will keep licenses current across multiple states, monitor compliance portals, review contracts and applications with precision, and ensure sensitive documentation is organized, secured, and audit-ready. This role requires someone who is methodical by nature, calm under pressure, and deeply uncomfortable leaving details unverified.

This is an individual contributor role with close partnership to Finance and high visibility to senior leadership. The right person does not wait to be asked - they build systems, implement controls, and monitor proactively.

This role is on-site in Charlotte, NC. Remote work is not available due to the sensitive financial, legal, and licensing documentation handled.

Compensation: $125,000 - $145,000 Base Salary + Company Performance Bonus

Key Responsibilities
• Monitor multi-state licensing and certification requirements; ensure registrations remain current and renewals are initiated proactively
• Manage and audit compliance portals daily; identify and resolve lapses or red-flag items before they impact operations
• Review contracts, applications, and state licensing submissions for accuracy; flag discrepancies before submission
• Research state-specific licensing and regulatory requirements as the company enters new markets
• Maintain organized, audit-ready records for licensing, certifications, insurance, and sensitive financial/legal documentation
• Partner with Finance to ensure documentation accuracy and proper filing of compliance-related data
• Coordinate with the Safety team to ensure safety-related compliance items are reflected and up to date
• Identify and implement compliance tracking tools and controls that reduce manual monitoring
• Draft and maintain internal documentation, correspondence, and applications with high accuracy
• Support leadership with compliance-related research, reporting, and ad hoc documentation needs

Requirements
JD strongly preferred; Bachelor's degree required (legal studies, paralegal studies, business administration, or related field)
• Prior experience in a law firm or legal department is a plus
• Experience in compliance, licensing, contracts, or regulatory roles; construction/facilities experience helpful but not required
• Exceptional attention to detail - you catch errors before they become problems
• Strong written communication skills; able to draft letters, complete applications, and document processes clearly
• Proficient in Microsoft 365; comfortable navigating compliance portals and online licensing systems
• Experience with compliance management software or tracking systems is a plus
• Process-oriented and self-directed - you build systems to stay ahead of deadlines
• Comfortable handling sensitive, confidential documentation with discretion and integrity

Physical Requirements

This role is primarily office-based and requires use of standard office equipment (computer, multi-line phone, scanner, printer, filing systems). The position requires extended periods of sitting, reading, and screen-based work. Occasional visits to project sites or government offices may be required. Ability to lift up to 15 lbs may be required.

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
