Compensation Consultant

Position Summary / Career Interest:
Act as a strategic, internal consultant for compensation projects, programs, administration, and initiatives to deliver the highest levels of consultative service, as well as, influence and improve the policies and procedures governing the compensation function. Build partnerships across the organization to develop and deploy competitive strategies and objectives to reward and retain top talent. Ensures the organization's compensation programs align with the University's Health System's philosophies and needs of the business while remaining market competitive.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Provide strategic and consultative advice across the core areas of compensation to ensure effective design and application of best practice solutions. Develop job descriptions and perform job evaluations leveraging external market data and balancing internal job value.  Review and develop salary recommendations for new hires, promotions, transfers, and demotions.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects/teams on strategic compensation initiatives (e.g., job architecture, career and reward framework, salary structure design, technology implementation and optimization, etc.).
  • Participate in salary surveys and perform compensation modeling and analyses of internal and external benchmark data to provide well-reasoned, succinct, market driven and business-aligned recommendations. Ensure that executive summaries and presentations clearly demonstrate options, considerations, and recommendations.
  • Develop compensation programs, policies, guidelines, procedures, and processes and recommend enhancements consistent with best practice trends and business objectives.
  • Identify areas of improvement and collaborate with HR Business Partners to develop education and communication strategies to effectively influence the behaviors and decision making of business leaders. Maintain advanced knowledge in external best practices and relevant changes to the compensation field and federal, state and local compensation laws and regulation; communicates updates to Total Rewards leadership.
  • Mentors compensation team members in areas of advanced knowledge and expertise.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in related field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 or more years of experience in the compensation field within an analytical and/or consulting role.
  • Experience with market pricing tools (MarketPay) and/or other types of compensation management systems or planning tools (Workday Advanced Compensation).

Knowledge Requirements
  • Familiar with standard compensation concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply experience, knowledge, and judgment to interpret business needs, make recommendations, and plan effectively to accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with leaders and HR Business Partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply discretion and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent computer skills, expert level user with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Excellent written and verbal skills; strong analytical and interpretive skills; strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work within a team environment and receive high customer satisfaction ratings; ability to handle work-related stress and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
