Full Job Description
About the role

HARMAN's Software Experiences Business Unit (SEBU) builds software products that connect people to music

In this role you will build and lead the communities around our new consumer products. You will be the voice of the product in the spaces where our users gather, and the voice of the community inside the company. This means seeding and growing our founding communities, setting the tone and culture, moderating and guiding conversations, running programs and events that keep users engaged, and turning early users into advocates who bring others in.

You will own our owned community channels day to day, partner closely with the growth, product, and creative teams, and help shape the product and the community experience based on what you hear directly from users.

Your Team

This is an individual contributor role reporting directly to the Director, Product Strategy within the Software Experiences Business Unit, and works cross-functionally with product management, growth, marketing, design, and engineering, as well as external agencies and partners. The role may grow to include direct reports as the community scales.

What You Will Do

  • Set the tone, voice, and culture for our product communities, and be the person users recognize and trust in those spaces.
  • Seed and grow our founding communities on the platforms where our target users already gather (Discord, Reddit, and social channels), building presence and trust before scale.
  • Engage users daily: welcome new arrivals, spark and guide conversations, answer questions, and keep the community active and healthy.
  • Moderate discussions and enforce community guidelines fairly and consistently, evolving those guidelines as the community grows.
  • Plan and run programs, rituals, and events (challenges, AMAs, listening sessions) that give users reasons to keep coming back.
  • Identify, recruit, and nurture founding users, super-users, and tastemakers, and design recognition that turns them into advocates.
  • Create and program community-facing content and prompts that drive participation, and maintain a content and events calendar.
  • Be the voice of the community inside the company: capture sentiment and feedback, surface it to product, design, and growth, and advocate for users.
  • Partner with the growth and product teams on invite, sharing, and social-proof mechanics, bringing community insight into product decisions.
  • Track and report on community health and engagement, and adjust programs and outreach based on what the data shows.

What You Need

  • 3+ years of experience in community management, social media, or a closely related role, ideally for a consumer app, social product, or fan-driven brand.
  • A track record of building and growing an online community from an early stage, not only maintaining an established one.
  • Hands-on fluency with the platforms where communities live, especially Discord and Reddit, as well as TikTok, Instagram, and other social channels.
  • Exceptional written communication skills and an instinct for tone, able to move fluently between the brand voice and the culture of a given community.
  • Strong moderation judgment: able to keep a space welcoming and safe, de-escalate conflict, and enforce guidelines consistently.
  • Comfort planning and running community programs and events, and coordinating content calendars across channels.
  • A data-informed approach to community, comfortable defining and tracking engagement and health metrics and acting on what they show.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment with shifting priorities.
  • Empathy and emotional intelligence, with a genuine interest in understanding and serving community members.
  • A genuine passion for music and music discovery, and an understanding of the culture around it.

What is Nice to Have

  • Experience launching or seeding a community for a new product ahead of a public launch.
  • Familiarity with the music or audio industry, including streaming platforms, artists, and fan communities.
  • Experience working with influencers, creators, or tastemakers as part of community or growth programs.
  • Familiarity with community and social management tooling and analytics (for example Discord bots and moderation tools, Discourse, social listening, and analytics dashboards).
  • Fluency with AI tools and a habit of using them to work faster and better - drafting and iterating on community content, summarizing member sentiment and feedback, and streamlining day-to-day workflows.
  • Experience working within a large global organization where a smaller, entrepreneurial business unit operates alongside established divisions.

What Makes You Eligible

  • Be willing to travel up to 25%, domestic and international travel.
  • Due to the nature of global infrastructure, you understand that flexibility in working hours is required.
  • This role is eligible to work remotely full-time with occasional trips into any HARMAN USA office (this could be on 24-hour notice)

What We Offer

  • Inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages career development opportunities.
  • Flexible work schedule with a culture encouraging work life integration.
  • On-site opportunities to focus on personal well-being and development provided by our Wellness Committee, Volunteer Committee and Harman Women's Network.
  • Professional development opportunities through HARMAN University's business and leadership academies and extensive course catalog.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with talented teams across the world.
  • Access to employee discounts on world class HARMAN products
