Description

Hennepin County's Outreach & Community Supports (OCS) department is seeking a Community Engagement Board Coordinator to support, strategize, facilitate, organize, and coordinate internal and external community boards including REAC, the Anti-Displacement Community Board, the Reparations Research Task Force, and other Hennepin County community boards. This position will strengthen the County's goal of disparity elimination and advise the County Board and administration on the county's vision and strategy for eliminating disparities and advancing racial equity across Hennepin County through a community board and community member lens. This position will serve as the direct contact for the community board members, while focusing on creating equity and access to county services and resources by ensuring that barriers to participation are removed for communities most impacted by systemic racism, including communities affected by race, ethnicity, language, disability, sexual orientation, and identity.
We are looking for a candidate with experience or familiarity working on or alongside Hennepin County community boards or lived experience.
Location and hours:

This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at 625 4th Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55415, and remote as job duties require. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will:

  • Provide strategic administrative guidance to Hennepin County Community Boards by helping them understand what responsibilities fall within the county's scope.
  • Consult, collaborate, and create community engagement board plans to support initiatives on REAC (Race Equity Advisory Committee), Reparation Research Task Force, and Anti-displacement community boards.
  • Serve as a coordinator between the community boards, while building and maintaining relationships between County Commissioners, County Administration, and OCS director to foster and build trust, bridge gaps, and create empowerment with priority community boards.
  • Lead collaboration between County community boards to better serve board members.
  • Build and maintain long-term and sustainable relationships with community boards and members of the community.
  • Manage the administrative tasks for community board meetings, including attending, scheduling, facilitating, coordinating logistics, and requesting appropriate speakers.
  • Educate and support community board members on the county's programs, services, and available resources, and serve as their primary point of contact when they need help connecting with Hennepin County.
  • Provide guidance, support, and strategy to help lead community board final reports.
  • Serve on countywide and community committees and task forces and support all social media and communication activities.

Need to have:

  • One of the following:
    • Eight or more years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
      • Note: Experience in general administrative work related to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. General administrative work is defined as the administration and/or management of programs, policies, and/or budgets.
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration, or other field appropriate to the position and four years of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.

    • Working in engagement with diverse communities in Hennepin County, including African American, American Indian/Native American/Indigenous or Somali communities.
    • Working with Hennepin County community boards, task force advisories, councils, and/or committees.
    • Supporting board administrative operations by taking meeting notes, understanding and applying bylaws, and collaborating with the governance board.
    • Building and maintaining relationships between the community boards and community members.
    • Leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of trusted relationships with community members and organizations.
    • Facilitating and leading organization-wide or community committees/sessions.

  • Ability to:
    • Navigate challenging conversations among diverse populations and build consensus.
