Duke Orthopaedics Seeks an Inaugural Community Division Chief, Durham, NC
Duke Orthopaedics seeks an inaugural Community Division Chief to guide a growing network of community-based Duke Orthopaedics practices throughout Duke Health. The new Chief will drive strategic, clinical, and operational priorities, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care while fostering growth, alignment, and collaboration.

The Community Division of Duke Orthopaedics consists of full-time clinical surgeons within Duke Health, some of whom have teaching and research responsibilities. The Division and its members serve a broad geographic area as well as meet access needs in the communities we serve.

Applicants should be MD/DO, fellowship-trained and board certified Orthopaedic surgeons with experience leading teams and a working knowledge of community-based clinical teams and integrated academic networks. The Community Division Chief will report to the Chair of Duke Orthopaedics and work in close collaboration with the Health System's Chief Physician Executive for Community practice, who oversees all Duke Health Community Clinicians within the Duke faculty practice. This role will have a clinical focus and it is expected that the successful applicant will have a clinical practice, and we can accommodate any clinical disciple.

Chief role responsibilities will include:
  • Provide leadership and oversight of community-based Orthopaedic practices, ensuring clinical excellence, provider engagement, and operational efficiency
  • Guide strategic development in partnership with Departmental and faculty leadership to define and execute strategic plans for community Orthopaedics
  • Maintain clinical excellence with the promotion of best practices and standardization across sites to ensure quality care and optimal clinical outcomes
  • Be responsible for quality and performance metrics through the monitoring of patient satisfaction and clinical quality indicators, identifying areas for improvement
  • Develop faculty and staff and mentor community providers to promote a culture of growth and continuous learning
  • Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high-quality clinicians, supporting further expansion of community practice relationships and integration into Duke Health
  • Drive operational collaboration in partnership with administrative teams to align services with financial and operational goals
