72About the RoleThe Communications and Marketing Officer serves as a trusted communications advisor to People Strategies, IT Services, Information Security Services and other university partners, leading communications strategies that shape the experience of students, faculty and staff at Simon Fraser University.
Reporting to the Faculty and Staff Communications & Marketing team, the Officer develops and delivers proactive, integrated communications that advance institutional priorities, support organizational change and strengthen engagement across the university. Working with leaders and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment, the Officer provides strategic counsel, identifies emerging issues and opportunities, and develops clear, effective messaging that builds understanding and connection.
Through strong relationships, strategic planning and compelling storytelling, the Officer ensures communications are audience-focused, inclusive, evidence-informed and aligned with SFU's values, brand and strategic goals.
The ideal candidate is an experienced communications professional with a proven ability to develop strategic communications plans, advise leaders, manage competing priorities and deliver measurable results in complex organizations.
They bring expertise in strategic communications, stakeholder engagement and change management, and can translate complex issues into clear, compelling communications. Skilled at building relationships and influencing across diverse groups, they exercise sound judgment, professionalism and political acuity in their work.
The successful candidate uses data and analytics to inform decisions, evaluate outcomes and demonstrate impact, while leading communications initiatives that support institutional priorities and organizational change.
Full Job Description
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field and five years of related professional experience, including experience in developing and implementing marketing and communications plans and budgets or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Knowledge and use of communications planning and change management best practice.
- Analytical skills to evaluate strategy success.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with Sharepoint, intranet, e-newsletters an asset
