The Commissioning Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all in planning and execution of a safe and efficient, pre commissioning, commissioning, start-up and performance testing of the facility project, as well as being responsible for planning, coordinating, and execution of pre-commissioning and commissioning activities. Supporting safe and efficient start-up, performance testing, and achievement of contractual objectives. This position combines technical leadership with quality assurance responsibilities to guarantee safe compliant and timely execution of work.
ResponsibilitiesPlanning, Execution & Leadership- Report to the Commissioning Manager and assist in planning and execution of safe and efficient pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and performance testing activities to meet plant production, performance, and company contractual objectives.
- Collaborate with the project team and client to maintain positive working relationships.
- Participate in the development of commissioning schedules for pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup phases.
Engineering & Systemization- Implement systemization and system boundary mark-ups.
- Participate in engineering design reviews as assigned, including:
- HAZOP
- P&IDs
- SIL reviews
- 3D model reviews
Supervision & Field Execution- Supervise execution of pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup procedures for utility and process systems.
- Lead and supervise assigned commissioning personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and successful execution of activities.
- Interface closely with completions, construction, and client teams during inspections and testing.
Mechanical Completion & Punch Management- Work closely with construction teams for mechanical completion inspections and accept systems as ready for pre-commissioning.
- Participate in system walkdowns, punch list development, and punch closure activities.
- Manage punch lists and ensure corrective actions are completed prior to commissioning and energization.
Quality Assurance & Compliance- Implement and enforce QA/QC Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and documentation for all installations.
- Conduct inspections and audits on:
- Cable installation and routing
- Terminations
- Switchgear and transformers
- Grounding systems
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards and client specifications.
- Coordinate with EPC QA/QC teams and third-party inspectors for certifications and sign-offs.
Electrical & Commissioning Activities- Implement electrical commissioning requirements in accordance with the Commissioning Execution Plan.
- Track and report electrical scope progress against the master project schedule.
- Validate electrical data in completions databases and review commissioning dossiers.
- Coordinate:
- Permit to Work (PTW)
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Safety analysis
- Vendor SAT and startup activities
Coordination & Interface Management- Liaise with vendors, subcontractors, and equipment suppliers for commissioning activities and repairs.
- Maintain strong coordination between engineering, construction, QA/QC, and client teams.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)- Enforce adherence to EHS standards, including OSHA/WCB and NFPA 70E requirements.
- Promote safe work practices throughout all commissioning phases.
Qualifications- Minimum of seven (7+) years of experience in commissioning activities.
- Proven experience working on large EPC projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of EPC systems and commissioning processes.
- Familiarity with international standards, including ISO and EU directives (e.g., PED, ATEX).
- Experience in field quality control and commissioning.
Skills & Competencies- Strong leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams.
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
Education- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
