Position Title: Commissioning Manager

Direct Hire (FTE)

Compensation: $180-220k Salary + Benefits Package

Candidate Must be Local to One of Three Hubs: Schenectady, NY, Greensville, SC, Atlanta, GA
Role Summary

The Commissioning Manager leads and directs the commissioning team, overseeing the comprehensive planning, preparation, and execution of commissioning, operational, trial run, and acceptance testing activities for Gas Turbine and Combined Cycle Power Plants (CCPP). This role ensures projects are delivered safely on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead the development, management, and delivery of commissioning execution strategies, methodologies, schedules, and cost controls.
  • Manage, assess, supervise, and mentor the commissioning team and other assigned personnel.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities strictly adhere to site Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) plans, safe systems of work, environmental protection measures, and local regulations.
  • Ensure commissioning is performed in accordance with project specifications, engineering documentation, and approved commissioning procedures.
  • Oversee, coordinate, and monitor the commissioning of all specified systems, ensuring adherence to project timelines and contractual obligations, in collaboration with the Site Manager, project management, and the customer.
  • Coordinate and conduct contractual performance tests with the customer, ensuring compliance, seamless plant turnover, and effective punch list management.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive test matrix for all commissioning activities required for Commercial Operation Date (COD), including procedure creation, approval authority, acceptance criteria, and timing for both standard and contractually/locally required additional tests.
  • Demonstrate expertise in steam blow processes and associated requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with the Engineering department to resolve technical issues and optimize commissioning solutions.
  • Develop and maintain the overall commissioning schedule and associated staffing plans.
  • Ensure project milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
  • Conduct daily and weekly commissioning meetings, providing clear Plans of the Day (POD) and Plans of the Week (POW).
  • Proactively identify, analyze, and troubleshoot technical problems, escalating as needed and providing comprehensive reports.
  • Manage and track non-conformities, perform cost analysis, and ensure accurate as-built documentation.
  • Maintain detailed daily logs and ensure logbooks are consistently updated to record commissioning progress, operational events, issues, and critical information.
  • Ensure stringent quality compliance for the entire scope of work, overseeing all inspections, tests, witness points, and the production/retention of quality records.
  • Actively participate in project risk reviews, developing and executing robust mitigation plans.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive commissioning experience, with in-depth knowledge of Gas Turbine and Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) systems.
  • Proven experience in leading and independently managing pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, including the supervision of technicians and supervisors.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to travel globally for extended assignments (100% travel required).
  • Fluent in spoken and written English; additional language proficiency is a plus.
  • Superior communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build strong customer relationships.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, team-building, and motivational capabilities.
