Full Job Description
Position Summary The Commercial Strategy & Analysis Director identifies, evaluates, and advances growth opportunities that create value for MPC through acquisitions, asset optimization, infrastructure expansion, and strategic business development initiatives for the South Fuels Value Chain. Leads cross-functional efforts to assess business performance, develop commercial strategies, and develop asset priorities with corporate objectives. Serves as a key advisor on asset valuation and merger and acquisition activities, coordinating economic analyses, due diligence efforts, and executive business case development. Manages counterparty commercial relationships for bulk storage and pipeline movements and executes associated contracts. Maintains deep industry knowledge and strategic relationships across the midstream and downstream sectors while providing leadership in commercial capability development and value chain optimization. Key Responsibilities
  • Identifies and evaluates opportunities to create value for MPC through acquisitions, enhancement of existing assets, or development of projects consistent with MPC's strategic direction.
  • Maintains high level of awareness of developments in midstream and downstream industries focusing on identification of opportunities with commercial viability and synergies with existing assets. Develops and maintains strong industry relationships.
  • Facilitates strategic alignment and prioritization of business improvement initiatives for assigned assets and the value chain. Leads cross-functional teams in evaluating business performance against competitive benchmarks to identify gaps.
  • Develops business improvement plan to address competitive gaps and maximize asset value such as, but not limited to, acquiring assets, merging with other businesses, expanding infrastructure to unleash value, evaluating growth opportunities in new markets, exploring new relationships and revenue streams and divesting of non-performing assets.
  • Directs complex economic evaluations coordinating development of financial models in collaboration with Strategy Finance and Corporate Analytics.
  • Recommends actions based on asset valuation and fit with strategic plans. Prepares business cases for review and decision by executive management and boards of directors.
  • Leads activities for acquisition and merger processes. Creates due diligence and action plan with relevant milestones and appropriate measurements.
  • Provides strategic guidance on the contractual relationship with MPLX and manages agreements between MPC and MPLX.
  • Provides leadership guidance for project managers on the commercial development and business development teams to prepare and present materials to executive leadership.
  • Provides leadership guidance for strategic commercials skills development and training for the full multi-commodity value chain.
  • Builds and maintains strong collaboration with the Latin American teams
  • Position Requires ~25% Travel
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or related discipline required
  • Ten (10) years of Business Development or Merger and Acquisition (M&A) experience for midstream or downstream energy industries required
