Full Job Description
The Commercial Optimization III, Sr, Lead is responsible for optimizing our revenue streams within the geographic footprint of an assigned market area for our western interstate pipeline. This includes coordinating with the Pipeline Control and Commercial organizations to support, develop and implement controls to optimize utilization of services in an effort to increase revenue.

Commercial Optimization - Western Interstates

Day in the Life:

As a Commercial Optimization Senior supporting Western Interstates, you will gain an understanding of current and historical customer and pipeline storage utilization, coordinate maintenance related items while considering internal and external maintenance conditions, and disseminate market intelligence information to the commercial team, fostering collaboration and team development. In addition to supporting other teams as the need arises, additional responsibilities may include:

Responsibilities/Expectations:
  • Identifies market interest and enhances revenue for transportation and storage opportunities; identifies market needs and crafts short-term services to address the needs of customers
  • Supports, develops and implements controls to better predict customer imbalances and utilization of services
  • Identifies services impacted when system capacity is limited due to unplanned outages or when flow dynamics are predicted to change
  • Coordinates with internal business partners on tariff changes and expansion project implementation as well as coordination of facility abandonments
  • Supports gas control in short and long-term planning to ensure obligations are met and revenue streams are optimized
  • Develops tariff modifications, coordinates across market centers, defines business requirements and trains others on changes to business practices
  • Improving Short-Term Firm and Park-and-Loan revenue, including identifying and implementing new revenue services
  • Collaborating with Pipeline Control, System Planning, Operations, and Commercial reps on maintenance and optimization related activities
  • Analyzing location/constraint utilization and measured versus scheduled volumes to identify trends and patterns
  • Assisting in the development and enhancement of risk management tools
  • Monitoring imbalances and customer activity to provide system recommendations
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Years of Experience:
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field; a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the energy industry
  • Preferred: MBA; experience in Commercial roles and familiarity with contracts and tariff provisions

Other Requirements:
  • Demonstrates outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications and PC skills
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial documents and agreements
  • Strong analytic skills to identify process improvements, trends and predictive behavior
  • Proprietary understanding of how Natural Gas challenges and complements alternative sources of Energy
  • Experience leading cross-functional project teams focused on commercial operations
  • Extensive knowledge of the specific business needs and challenges of our customers and in-depth understanding of most aspects of commercial systems
