Full Job Description
NATURE AND SCOPE: This position reports to the AVP or VP, Commercial Banking Underwriting. Underwrites new commercial loan requests, renewals, and annual reviews, which includes the preparation of the appropriate credit analysis and risk rating package. Reviews collateral documents to include: appraisals, title policies, environmental reports, surveys, leases and construction contracts. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Bachelor's degree in business or related field and a minimum of 7 years of direct experience in business/commercial credit analysis. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 2. Must have advanced financial and credit analysis skills as well as a detailed understanding of business credit documentation and business collateral documents. 3. Experience in software or systems used for credit analysis, and deposit and loan products. 4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, organizational skills and the ability to work independently as a valuable team member in a dynamic environment. 5. Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and discretion in various situations while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality. 6. Proven ability to independently organize work, balancing multiple priorities and managing a variety of projects in a high-volume work environment with strong attention to detail. 7. Must develop a thorough understanding of company policies and procedures as they relate to this position. Must comply with all company policies and procedures and all job-related state and federal laws and regulations. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Serves as a subject matter expert and information source for the Underwriter team. Shares ideas and assists peers as needed. 2. Meets with Commercial Loan Officers and/or borrowers to understand existing loans and new loan requests. 3. Completes all sections of the appropriate credit analysis and risk rating package so that the loan request and structure, collateral analysis, borrower background, financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, loan policy compliance, future financial statement requirements, strengths and weaknesses and conditions to close are detailed in such a manner that a loan decision can be made. 4. Provides feedback to Commercial Loan Officers and supervisory staff regarding concerns with any aspects of loans underwritten. Recommends and models appropriate loan structure for new and existing loan relationships. 5. May be asked to contact business members, accountants, attorneys or other necessary professionals to clarify questions related to the preparation of the credit analysis package. 6. When appropriate, attends business loan appointments with business loan officers to be part of the profiling process. 7. Requests and analyzes all necessary collateral documents and take a proactive approach in resolving any issues. 8. Requests necessary financial statements for the completion of annual reviews. 9. Completes annual reviews as per the requirements of the business loan policy and the dates established in the credit analysis package. Analyzes and studies the trends to determine the appropriate risk rating. Makes recommendations on risk rating changes. 10. Maintains annual review and risk rating reports. 11. May be asked to attend Commercial Loan Committee meetings to present credit analysis information and/or other information relative to this position. 12. Assists in the annual review of the Commercial Lending Policy. 13. Performs loan audit review work as assigned. 14. Performs other duties as assigned.
