PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES- Performs chart analysis and abstract CPT codes, HCPCS codes, ICD codes and modifiers, as needed, for surgical specialties to ensure the appropriate coding, billing, and reimbursement for the medical center.
- Reviews and resolves accounts for coding issues like missing modifiers, incorrect modifiers, missing charges, incorrect charges, medical necessity edits, CCI edits, claim edits, and payor denials in Epic; verifies accuracy of ICD diagnosis codes and CPT/HCPCS codes.
- Consults with physicians and/or clinical department representatives, as appropriate, to verify services rendered and documented. Provide feedback to assist in the understanding of coding and documentation issues and opportunities.
- Makes coding corrections to resolve coding issues; supports PFS by reviewing specified services for charge accuracy.
- Serves as a resource for current surgical coding, billing and regulatory guidelines; including but not limited to review of denials for mitigation and reduction strategies.
- Maintains Epic WQ turnaround times to prevent charge lags for professional fee services. Identifies potentially avoidable delays to timely billing and help identify systemic issues that contribute to delays in service or inefficient uses of resources to address root cause and prevent ongoing errors.
- Performs special projects or may perform the work of lower-level classifications of the Coding Specialist series.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC), Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) or Radiation Oncology Certified Coder (ROCC).
• Three years coding experience
or
• Equivalent education/experience.
Compensation, Benefits and Position DetailsPay Range Minimum:$32.81 hourly
Pay Range Maximum:$46.99 hourly
