As a CMM Technician at our Richmond Extreme Precision Optics site, you will be responsible for programming and operation of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) used to measure high precision glass components.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Develop concepts for and execute detailed programming of CMM operations to measure components based on drawings, solid models and other design information as required.
- Program and operate multiple CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines) using various software packages including Zeiss CALYPSO, Hexagon Metrology PC-DMIS and QUINDOS 7.
- Program CMM both online and offline using solid models such as step or parasolid formats.
- Verify parts are within specified geometric tolerance and in compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Collaborate and interface with Manufacturing, Quality and Engineering , Management and Planning to meet on-time delivery schedules.
- Assist in continuous improvement of procedures and methods with a mind toward efficiency.
- Create, document, and maintain formal company documents, such as results, procedures, inspection plans, system work instructions.
- Develop fixturing concepts and work with the mechanical design team to facilitate implementation.
- Support sales group with estimates for quoting as needed.
- Assist with training others in the use of equipment and processes
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:- High School Diploma, preferably from a technical high school. Associate degree preferred.
- 5 years of related industry experience
- 4 years of experience programming and operating CMM equipment (Brown & Sharpe, Leitz and/or Zeiss preferred), experience with Zeiss CALYPSO and/or Hexagon Metrology PC-DMIS/QUINDOS software is a plus
- Thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME/ANSI Y14.5
- Expert skill level for reading and interpreting technical drawings, customer specifications, working with 3D solid CAD models, and strong math skills
- Experience using manual measuring tools such as dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers, profilometers, optical comparators.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing practices with a strong commitment to safety and precision-level quality.
- Highly organized, detail oriented with strong ownership, accountability for technical issues and challenges.
- Strong computer aptitude, ability to use MS Word and Excel
- Driven to achieve with the ability to take initiative, and flexible with shifting priorities.
