Description

SAIC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cloud Engineer to join our team in Alexandria, Virginia.

This role is deeply hands-on and combines Azure cloud architecture expertise with cybersecurity to support IL4, IL5, and IL6 environments. The successful candidate will have proven abilities to configure, troubleshoot, and support cloud systems while designing a future roadmap for modernization. The candidate will also lead and mentor team members to deliver secure, scalable, and efficient solutions that meet DoD and government standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership, setting direction for cloud and cybersecurity modernization efforts and creating a long-term cloud transformation roadmap.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to assess current cloud and cybersecurity posture, identify gaps, and define modernization objectives.
  • Mentor and train team members to build subject matter expertise in cloud technologies, automation, and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Drive innovation and align architectures with mission goals, ensuring operational excellence and future scalability.
  • Demonstrate strong hands-on abilities to configure, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot Azure components, including VNets, subnets, NSGs, VPN gateways, and firewalls.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for complex issues across infrastructure, networking, security, and applications in cloud environments.
  • Implement and manage cloud network configurations to ensure secure traffic flow and connectivity, adhering to DoD and compliance standards.
  • Enable secure hybrid and multi-cloud operation by integrating on-premises systems with Azure services.
  • Lead efforts to secure systems operating in IL4, IL5, and IL6 environments, obtaining and maintaining Authority to Operate (ATO) certifications.
  • Develop and maintain System Security Plans (SSPs) and ensure compliance with NIST 800-53, FISMA, and other DoD security frameworks.
  • Execute vulnerability scans, analysis, remediation, and reporting using tools like ACAS, SonarQube, and Burp Suite.
  • Implement secure workflows, including STIG hardening, SAST (Static Application Security Testing), and DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing).
  • Leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, ARM templates, and Bicep to deploy scalable, repeatable, and secure cloud solutions.
  • Design and manage CI/CD pipelines with integrated security checks using tools like Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins to enable secure and seamless deployments.
  • Automate monitoring, provisioning, and scaling of cloud infrastructure to ensure reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Utilize automation to streamline security operations, including vulnerability management, compliance verification, and incident response.
  • Deploy and manage Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters and containerized services using tools like Docker, ensuring security and scalability of modern applications.
  • Oversee service mesh implementations (e.g., Istio) within Kubernetes environments to enhance security, monitoring, and observability.
  • Enforce secure container image deployment practices and maintain container registries.
  • Implement and manage monitoring solutions using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights for real-time observability.
  • Respond to and resolve critical infrastructure or security incidents, implementing response workflows and automating mitigations where possible.
  • Present key metrics on system performance, resource utilization, and overall cloud security posture to stakeholders in actionable formats.
  • Conduct continuous performance tuning and resource optimization to balance performance demands with cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist in forecasting future infrastructure needs and adjusting roadmap strategies for scalable growth.
  • Use analytical and predictive tools to propose enhancements to the cloud environment that align with mission requirements.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Bachelors and five (5) years or more experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Extensive hands-on expertise in Microsoft Azure Cloud architecture, with the ability to implement, configure, and troubleshoot complex infrastructures.
  • Proven track record of leading modernization efforts, including creating future-oriented strategies to align with cutting-edge cloud and cybersecurity technologies.
  • Strong scripting and automation experience using tools such as Python, PowerShell, or similar.
  • Proficiency in DevSecOps workflows, including CI/CD pipeline development with built-in security integration.
  • Advanced experience with Kubernetes, containerization (e.g., Docker), and container security practices.
  • Significant experience securing IL4, IL5, and IL6 environments, managing SSPs, POA&Ms, and ATO processes.
  • Expertise in vulnerability lifecycle management, including scanning, analyzing, and remediating findings.
  • Proficiency with compliance frameworks such as FISMA and NIST 800-53, and implementing controls to meet DoD standards.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with hands-on troubleshooting in cloud, networking, and cybersecurity domains.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills for mentoring teams and engaging with stakeholders on highly technical topics.
  • Must be available to work on-site in Alexandria, VA, 5 days a week.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced certifications in Azure (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert).
  • Cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or CAP.
  • Experience supporting DoD or other government-regulated cloud environments.
Clearance:
  • Candidate must have an active Secret clearance.

Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
