The Manager, Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine Operations is responsible for the operational, financial, and personnel leadership of Pulmonary Medicine, Sleep Clinic, and Sleep Lab services. This role partners with physicians, clinical staff, and organizational leaders to ensure high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and achievement of departmental goals. The manager oversees day-to-day operations, staff performance, quality initiatives, financial outcomes, and strategic growth efforts across multiple ambulatory service lines, including oversight of a 24-hour sleep program.

Responsibilities

Clinical Operations
  • Lead daily operations for Pulmonary Medicine, Sleep Clinic, and Sleep Lab services.
  • Partner closely with physicians and clinical leaders to improve patient care, workflow efficiency, and departmental performance.
  • Implement and monitor operational workflows to achieve access, quality, productivity, and patient experience goals.
  • Coordinate activities across departments to ensure a unified approach to care delivery.
  • Participate in organizational committees, leadership meetings, and clinical initiatives.


Leadership & People Management
  • Direct, mentor, and develop clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Manage employee performance, coaching, corrective action, and professional development.
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, onboarding, retention, and staff engagement efforts.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings and maintain effective team communication.
  • Ensure completion of orientation, training, competency validation, and continuing education requirements.


Financial & Resource Management
  • Assist with budget development and manage departmental expenses.
  • Monitor financial performance, monthly operating reports, productivity metrics, and staffing resources.
  • Identify opportunities to improve revenue cycle performance, billing accuracy, registration accuracy, and encounter management.
  • Oversee supply management, equipment purchases, inventory control, and vendor coordination.
  • Develop and maintain productivity standards that support operational and financial goals.


Quality & Performance Improvement
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on clinical outcomes, operational excellence, patient access, and patient experience.
  • Analyze operational and quality data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop action plans and measure outcomes to ensure sustained performance improvements.
  • Support infection prevention, clinical practice standards, and departmental policy implementation.


Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, including Joint Commission, OSHA, billing compliance requirements, and other healthcare regulations.
  • Maintain departmental policies and procedures consistent with organizational and regulatory expectations.


Collaboration & Community Relations
  • Serve as a liaison between physicians, staff, leadership, and internal support departments.
  • Partner with marketing and organizational resources to support service line growth, communication initiatives, and patient engagement efforts.
  • Foster collaborative relationships across UC Health and UC Physicians.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Health Sciences, or related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of healthcare leadership or operations management experience.
  • Experience supervising teams and managing multiple direct reports.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial management, productivity monitoring, and operational reporting.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • 6 to 10 years of healthcare leadership experience.
  • Experience in Pulmonary Medicine, Sleep Medicine, Respiratory Care, EEG/Neurodiagnostic Services, or other clinical operations environments.
  • Ambulatory, outpatient, or physician practice management experience.
  • Experience leading quality improvement and process improvement initiatives.
