Summary:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) at Maine Medical Center (MMC) is an advanced practice nurse as defined by the Maine Nurse Practice Act and/or the ANA Advanced Practice Standards (1996). The mission of the CNS is to assure the provision of expert, quality, evidence-based care for patients and families in a variety of practice settings. The CNS also provides leadership in the development of staff, resources, and programs that support the MMC mission. The CNS partners with health care providers and management teams to develop and deliver quality health care to specific patient populations within and beyond MMC.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Knowledge of Nursing theory, practice and education in order to conduct patient assessments, develop and coordinate complex plans of care and to develop educational programs at a level acquired through completion of a Master's Degree in an advanced practice clinical nursing specialty.
  2. License/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine and license for advanced practice in nursing if available. Certification in clinical specialty at the advance practice level (if applicable) is required.
  3. Experience: Two to three years of clinical experience in assigned specialty area.
  4. A high level of critical thinking skills, process and problem solving skills, and systems knowledge necessary for participation in clinical initiatives.
  5. Interpersonal, communication and leadership skills sufficient to lead individuals and groups.


The pay range for this position is $108,297.28 to $160,923.98 per year.

Compensation for part-time positions is determined on a prorated basis consistent with the scheduled hours and applicable full-time equivalent (FTE).
