Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0)

Shift: Shift 1

Work Schedule: 8 Hr (7:00:00 AM - 3:30:00 PM)

Pay Range: $51.26 - $81.64 per hour

Job Qualifications:

A Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice nurse who holds a master's or doctoral nursing degree as well as population focused certification meeting National Council of State Boards of Nursing and the American Nurses Association (ANA) requirements. The advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical expertise in a focus area, critical appraisal of evidence-based practice, leadership, collaboration, consultation, education, and mentoring. The specialized knowledge and skills are applied within three areas of impact to patient/family/direct care, nurses/nursing practice, and organization/system outcomes. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. Clinical Nurse Specialist practice is within the framework of the RUMC Model of Professional Nursing Practice, Professional Nursing Staff shared governance, Advanced Practice Committee, and Quality committee structure at RUMC. Clinical privileges are not required for this role.

The applicant must be able to demonstrate skills at the level of an advanced practice nurse in leadership, communication, collaboration, mentoring, and change as evidenced by portfolio, recommendation letters, references, interview, and demonstration.

The applicant must be able to demonstrate ability at the level of an advanced practice nurse to utilize evidence to develop, teach, guide and implement practice standards and policies. A high level of analytical ability is required for this role.

Position Highlights:
• The CNS is a key member of the unit and nursing leadership team, responsible for advancing clinical practice to achieve strategic goals.
• In addition, this role partners with Rush University including College of Nursing to support and promote integration of the academic and practice environments.

Position Responsibilities:

Practices within the three CNS spheres of influence
• Patient/Direct Care

a. Provides expert consultation for patient/populations with complex health care needs using evidence.

b. Designs evidence-based, cost-sensitive interventions, including advanced nursing therapies, to meet the multifaceted needs of complex patient / populations

c. Collaborates with system-wide committees to elevate, standardize, and evaluate clinical practices
• Nursing/ Nursing Practice

a. Collaborates within nursing and across interdisciplinary clinical teams to implement continuous process improvement to support the nursing strategic plan.

b. Creates a standard of practice using evidence based information to achieve outcomes for indicators that are nurse-sensitive

c. Collaborates with other departments to develop and/or review orientation, clinical competency, and additional clinical education programs
• Organization/Systems Leadership

a. Leads systematic quality and safety initiatives based on problem identification, gap analysis, and process evaluation to achieve strategic goals

b. Develops, evaluates and incorporates innovative models of practice across the continuum of care.

c. Leads the integration, management, and evaluation of technology/products to promote safety, quality, and efficiency, and optimal health outcomes.

Position Qualifications Include:
• Current state of Illinois Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure required
• Clinical Nurse Specialist board certification required
• 3-5 years of relevant clinical experience
• Graduate from an accredited CNS educational program with a Masters or Doctoral nursing degree.
• BLS certification required
