Salary: $57.08 - $70.33 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable and in accordance with collective agreement requirements)

Status: Permanent Full Time (Weekdays 8:00am-4:00pm)

Position Summary

The primary role of the Clinical Nurse Educator is to facilitate a learning environment where evidence-based knowledge is translated via multi-modal education to staff with the aim of optimizing patients' outcomes and experiences. This includes the design and delivery of educational plans and activities to support improving staff's knowledge, skills and competencies and, by working in collaboration with others (CNSs, NPs, Program Managers, Collaborative Academic Practice Team) to provide support for ongoing employee professional development within the Transitional Care Program.

Duties
  • Assess learning needs of individual nurses (both existing and new hires), unit/program nurses, and nursing staff across the Centre (for defined corporate initiatives)
  • Develop education plans containing goals, objectives, resources and evaluation activities
  • Provide leadership in designing and delivering education arising from new or changing clinical practices
  • Develop education plans for nursing staff that includes annual reviews, re-certifications, just-in-time education and required learning resulting from ongoing competency requirements and changes in nursing practice
  • Collaborate with Professional Practice teams across Transitional Care Programs, Rehab/CCC sites and Program Managers to identify opportunities for integration of learning assessments and education plans
  • Maintain learning attendance records and monitor the implementation of educational plans and related activities (e.g.) teach-back/return demonstrations
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to nursing staff on their learning and application to their practice competence
  • Promote learner responsibility/accountability for their own learning and professional development
  • Develop Learning Plans for remediation activities for nursing staff
  • Supports, mentors and coaches nursing staff and nursing students (as appropriate), in achieving their learning goals and objectives
  • Evaluate effectiveness of educational plans and related activities inviting feedback from staff and specific stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to influence and augment a positive learning environment by bringing forward recommendations with draft learning plans and related strategies for consideration
  • Collaborate with appropriate partners in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating corporate and other educational initiatives including those addressing policy/procedures
  • Participate in relevant committees and other working groups to support a clinical education perspective and articulate other educational activities that are underway or being proposed
  • Collaborate with Clinical Education on nursing student placement opportunities and any arising opportunities and issues
  • Collaborate with Program Managers in interviewing, hiring and contributing to the evaluation of nursing staff when appropriate (e.g.) progress with orientation checklists
  • Maintain and continually augment skills and competencies in leading practices in education and knowledge translation
  • Develop internal/external relationships and coalitions to share resources, knowledge and expertise in educational approaches and design
  • In partnership with CNSs and other partners, supports the development of educational materials for clinical team members
  • Support and participate in the implementation of evidence based practice (best practice guidelines and other forms of evidence) and quality improvement initiatives with Professional Practice, units/programs and corporately
  • Support staff nurses and team members to engage in meaningful learning opportunities for nursing students
  • Support, mentor and coach undergraduate nursing students during their clinical practicums within the Transitional Care Program as relevant to education plans and initiatives that are being conducted
  • Support the Nursing Professional council through membership and leadership on specific initiatives pertaining education and professional development
  • Serve as an RNAO BPSO Champion within the Transitional Care Program


Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nursing or Education
  • Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
  • Additional course work, workshops and experience in principles and methodologies of adult education preferred
  • Additional course work, workshops and experience in a specialty focus that supports the patient population within the Transitional Care Program preferred
  • Experience facilitating learning from an evidence-based practice perspective
  • Certifications that complement the patient population receiving care within the Transitional Care Program
  • Cross-appointment(s) to academic institutions preferred
  • RNAO Member
  • Current/previous experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator/ APNE in a health care organization
  • Experience and demonstrated success as a clinical Nurse (3-5 years' experience)
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clinical educational leadership and mentoring to staff
  • Current/previous experience as a Clinical Nurse Educator in a health care organization similar to the Transitional Care Program preferred
  • Experience in quality improvement methodologies and participation in research preferred
