Job Title: RN Clinical Manager

Department: ED | Emergency Department

Position Type: Salaried Exempt

Weekends: as needed

Shift & Hours: Days | 40 hours

ED Clinical Manager Job Summary:

Utilizes clinical and operational expertise to lead, support, and supervise personnel to ensure that standards are met and quality patient care is delivered. Demonstrates specific behaviors in the areas of leadership, operational efficiency, staff development, safety and personal professionalism. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide direct patient care.

ED Clinical Manager Essential Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the effective day-to-day operation of ED.
  • In conjunction with the Nurse Director, completes performance appraisals, follows up on staff achievement, counsels and/or educates as required.
  • Serves as a positive role model for change by promoting and supporting change.
  • Identifies quality improvement opportunities and in conjunction with the Nurse Director initiates and follows through on appropriate strategies.
  • Serves as a clinical resource person for staff members, providing leadership and supporting staff development.
  • Incorporates critical thinking and establishes priorities in decisions about patient care and departmental operations.
  • Assists the Nurse Director in budget preparation and implementation of cost-saving initiatives. Maintains safe staffing levels for the department.
  • Ensures a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Acts as a patient and staff advocate.

ED Clinical Manager Education Qualifications:

  • Licensed and currently registered in the State of Connecticut as a professional Registered Nurse required.
  • Preparation in nursing management preferred.
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.

ED Clinical Manager Experience Qualifications:
  • Seven years current nursing experience required.
  • Minimum of five years experience in a leadership position preferred.
