Job Description:

Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts

Rotating weekends and holidays

Two on-call overnight shifts per month

  • Provides spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families, and staff as designated by the Director of Pastoral Care Department.
  • Provides Night on Call (NOC) and Weekend on Call (WOC) coverage as required.
  • Conducts Sunday services at Behavioral Health as needed.
  • Responds promptly to all emergency codes (e.g., Code Blue, Code Green).
  • Responds to requests for services within twenty-four hours.
  • Conducts pre-surgical visits as scheduled by the director and follows up with surgical patients within twenty-four hours after surgery.
  • Assists staff chaplains in conducting support groups for clinical staff when required.
  • Maintains open communication with the interdisciplinary team and cultivates professional relationships with all hospital staff members.
  • Provides devotional services throughout the hospital as needed and leads Chapel Services when required.
  • Maintains cooperative working relationships with local clergy and informs the patient's clergy of the patient's request for pastoral visits when requested.
  • Assists staff chaplains in educating patients, families, staff, and the local community through seminars, in-service sessions, support groups, and individual pastoral counseling.
  • Assists staff chaplains in planning and executing Critical Incident Stress Debriefing sessions when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Operate within the guidelines of the profession, upholding standards of practice and competencies at all times [Required]
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a healthcare environment providing effective spiritual care for patients, families, and staff through individual and group pastoral counseling, spiritual care, and emotional support [Required]
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English with excellent oral communication skills [Required]
  • Display excellent customer service, organization, and people skills [Required]
  • Maintain continuing education hours as outlined by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE) [Required]
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Internet Explorer; experience with Cerner or other Electronic Healthcare Record applications [Preferred]
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]
  • Personal commitment to God, emotional stability, sound physical health, and the ability to work under stress [Required]
  • Effectively relate to persons of diverse religious, educational, and cultural backgrounds and earn the respect of all team members [Required]
  • Knowledge of current counseling theories and practices, compliance with legal and ethical parameters based on the level of education and certification [Required]
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively in English to carry out job requirements [Required]
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record systems and ability to follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment when indicated [Required]
  • Show respect and sensitivity for cultural and religious differences [Required]


Education:
  • Master's [Required]


Field of Study:
  • Master's of Divinity degree or other graduate theological degree (72-hour minimum) such as: pastoral care, spiritual care, etc. (as required for APC Board Certification qualification)


Work Experience:
  • 1+ of pastoral ministry or chaplaincy experience [Preferred]
  • Prior hospital chaplain experience [Preferred]


Additional Information:
  • Minimum of 4 units of ACPE, Inc. accredited CPE (Level 1 and Level 2 engaged) [Required]


Licenses and Certifications:
  • Ordained Minister (ORDM) [Preferred] OR Commissioned Minister Credential (ADM) [Preferred]
  • Ecclesiastical Endorsement Certificate (CHAPLAIN) [Preferred]
  • Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) [Preferred]
