What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking a General Technologist to support the Vulnerability Capability Unit. The Vulnerability Capability Unit operates multiple R&D laboratories in 3 different buildings in Albuquerque. Each of these laboratories are unique and specialized. The need exists for an energetic and resourceful individual to support Technical R&D activities by performing a variety of operational duties that span work planning and controls (WP&C), safety, security, facilities and infrastructure sustainment, and technical instrument lifecycle management as well as directly supporting electrical, mechanical and chemical laboratory operations depending on your skills and experience.
With experience, the role is expected to progress to development and ownership of both significant portions of the operational aspects of the department and the ability to perform unsupervised laboratory work.
The span of responsibilities will be focused on:
- Working with training coordinators to ensure our operational aspects of the department are in line with SNL expectations (Environmental, Safety, Security and Health). This would include working with host building coordinators, and SNL facilities.
- Overseeing our large number of laboratory and conference room computers and video conferencing capabilities by working with IT community to keep them in corporate compliance. This would include 3SP planning.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain a P-Card. This would include ordering test hardware and other precursor materials.
- Extensive work with classified hardware and documents, needs to be comfortable working in a vault, opening/closing safes and general handling of classified hardware/documents.
- Performing file transfers between classified systems.
- Maintaining operational status of our fleet vehicles.
- Development of plans and reinvestment as well as oversight of the indirect funds used to support the 5647 labs.
- Preparing labs for experiments, either through equipment purchases, maintenance or working with others.
- Prepare and document hardware for testing and post-test establish current pedigree and close out documentation.
- Support a variety of hands-on activities in the labs, under the supervision of experienced technical staff - Targeted growth is to transfer more accountability to the candidate as they grow into their role.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range$74,700 - $144,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require- High School Diploma or GED plus three (3) or more years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience coordinating work of external support organizations (e.g. security, facilities, various lab supporting organizations).
- Experience administering security policy and requirements.
- Ability and willingness to learn new skills such as basic electronics, mechanical assembly and chemical/materials experiments.
- Ability to manage and track experimental hardware, including technical details such as state of health.
- Active DOE Q or DoD TS clearance is required to start, plus the ability to obtain and maintain a SCI which may include a polygraph examination.
Qualifications We Desire- Extensive experience with classified hardware at all levels.
- Direct experience with one or more hands on environments, electronics, mechanical assembly and or chemistry.
- Ability to take on a wide variety of problems where there is not a known pathway to the answer.
- Familiarity with work planning and controls processes for activity level work (work approval and safety planning processes).
- Experience maintaining online sites for organizational/team communication and collaboration as needed.
- Active SCI clearance.
