Position Summary
Reporting to North America Health, Safety, & Environmental Director with daily reporting to the Claremont Fiber Site Director (Matrix Organization), the Claremont Fiber Health & Safety Manager leads in the development, execution, and maintenance of health and safety initiatives for the Fiber manufacturing site (700 plus employees). The Health & Safety Manager will provide leadership, oversight and assistance in the development, implementation and coordination of health and safety programs and policies to ensure goal attainment and compliance with all applicable regulations and company initiatives.
Job Objectives/Initiatives:
- Responsible for the development, implementation, training, and maintenance of policies, programs, and procedures to reduce team member injury, minimize company exposure and ensure compliance with Prysmian safety management systems and all applicable Health and Safety laws and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Provides daily direction, supervision, and leadership to site HSE Lead (NDW).
- Collaborates closely with the Cable Plant H&S Manager on all safety & health related matters.
- Partners with Cable Plant H&S Manager to provide oversite and direction to on-site occupation health clinic.
- Drives employee engagement and accountability at all site levels to achieve a Courage to Care culture and belief that zero injuries are attainable – One Day at a Time.
- Proactively provides hands-on support in areas such as: Health and Safety Procedure implementation (Corporate and site specific), behavioral safety processes, problem analysis/troubleshooting, and interpretation of applicable legislation.
- Facilitates and drives compliance with Prysmian Safety Mandates.
- Collaborates with Environmental Manager and Cable Plant H&S Manager to achieve and maintain certification to ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 Standards (Integrated Management System).
- Participates in audits or meetings at other sites, as needed.
- Partners with Site Environmental and Sustainability Manager to ensure ongoing compliance with Fiber Plant Process Safety Management (PSM) Standard regulation.
- Drives safety incident reporting process that ensures effective incident investigation reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action execution and effectiveness.
- Conducts and assists with internal and external health and safety audits and meets with regulatory agencies during facility inspections/audits as required.
- Leads in the development and execution of facility specific health and safety training needs.
- Participates in Operational HSE reviews and new installation HSE assessments.
- Leads investigations into serious or critical EHS matters as directed by senior leadership.
- Leads or participates in key Health & Safety team meetings, Kaizen events and other key meetings where Health & Safety representation is requested.
- Works closely with HSE counterparts and serves as site representative to cross-regional forums for best practice sharing, idea exchange, shared learning, etc.
- May serve as a back up to site Sustainability & Environmental Manager and Cable Plant H&S Manager, when needed.
- Responsible for other key HSE initiatives as assigned by the NA HSE Leadership or Facility Leader.
Education- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, or other related field.
Qualifications/Experience
- 8 plus years of direct H&S experience including OSHA compliance, behavior-based safety, process hazard and risk analysis, root cause evaluation, incident management, standards and procedural development, auditing, and training.
- 3 plus years’ experience in Cable or Fiber manufacturing.
- CSP Certification preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to drive safety participation and accountability throughout all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge and Experience with ISO Management Systems strongly preferred.
- Experience with OSHA PSM Standard strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and drive sustainable change.
- Available to respond to site for medical treatment injuries and serious incidents outside regular working hours.
- Strong knowledge of US health and safety regulations (OSHA).
- Knowledge and Experience with ISO Management Systems strongly preferred.
- Experience with OSHA PSM Standard strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of worker’s compensation regulations.
- Strong organizational & planning skills.
- Excellent analytical skills & problem-solving skills
- Proficient with technology such as Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other standard computer applications.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (oral & written), able to interact with all levels in the organization.
- This is a site level role (not remote)
- Ability to travel periodically for meetings and participation in other site audits.
