Responsibilities

  • Handles claims in all jurisdictions
  • Manages litigated and non-litigated property damage claims up to $250,000
  • Handles non-litigated bodily injury claims up to $250,000 in all jurisdictions
  • Confirms coverage by reviewing policies and claim documents
  • Analyzes coverage and communicates positions effectively
  • Drafts coverage position letters as needed
  • Identifies losses for reporting to Special Investigations Unit (SIU)
  • Coordinates investigation into loss facts and damages
  • Evaluates coverage, liability, and damages to assess exposure
  • Sets reserves within authority or recommends changes to the manager
  • Participates in special projects or assists team as requested
  • Represents Markel in mediations as required
  • Provides professional customer service while maintaining production levels

Full Job Description
This position will be responsible for the resolution of moderate complexity and moderate exposure Workers Compensation claims in multiple jurisdictions. The position will have increased responsibility for decision making within their authority and work under general direction from their manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Handles claims in all jurisdictions
  • Handles litigated and non-litigated property damage claims with values up to $250,000
  • Handles non-litigated bodily injury claims with values up to $250,000 in all jurisdictions
  • Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claims
  • Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions
  • Drafts coverage position letters
  • Identify losses which should be reported to SIU.
  • Conducts, coordinates, and directs investigation into loss facts and extent of damages
  • Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine the extent of insured's exposure
  • Sets reserves within authority or makes recommendations concerning reserve changes to manager
  • Participates in special projects or assists other team members as requested
  • Represents Markel in mediations, as required
  • Provides excellent and professional customer service to insureds while maintaining a high level of production.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Certification

  • Adjusters’ license or legal license in at least one jurisdiction

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of claims handling (or equivalent work) experience

Pay information:

The salary range for this position is $62,400  - $107,250. The posted salary range reflects the lowest and highest base salary applicable to this role across our U.S. locations. Individual offers are determined based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and other job-related factors. As a result, the salary offered for a specific location will fall within a narrower range than the overall range displayed in this posting. This position may also be eligible to participate in the Company's annual incentive plan.
