The Opportunity
Alpha Inc. is looking for a Civil Superintendent who can lead from the dirt, not from a distance.
This is not a clipboard-only role. This is a boots-on-the-ground, schedule-owning, crew-building, problem-solving leadership role for someone who knows heavy civil construction is won through planning, grit, discipline, and people who trust each other when the pressure hits.
You will oversee civil projects from kickoff to closeout, keeping work safe, sharp, on schedule, on budget, and up to Alpha standards. You will be the critical bridge between Project Managers, Foremen, crews, clients, and leadership - turning plans into production and jobsite complexity into coordinated execution.
We are not looking for someone who merely "has experience." We are looking for an A Player: someone who raises the standard, builds strong crews, handles conflict without ego, reads the field before it becomes a problem, and refuses to let quality or safety slide.
If you can run work, lead people, protect the schedule, own the numbers, and keep your crew locked in - this may be your next move.
What You Will Do
Lead Civil Projects From Plan to Punch List
Oversee civil construction projects from initiation through completion, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to Alpha's quality standards.
Partner closely with Project Managers and Foremen to plan, organize, sequence, and direct field activities.
Develop and manage work schedules based on crew availability, production targets, project timelines, weather impacts, material flow, and field realities.
Monitor job progress, identify risks early, and communicate clear updates to supervisors, site engineers, officials, clients, and internal stakeholders.
Build and Run High-Performing Crews
Build, train, lead, and manage crews that know the plan, understand the standard, and execute with pride.
Assign work based on skill set, project needs, safety requirements, and production goals.
Conduct performance evaluations, support hiring and training decisions, and manage disciplinary actions for direct reports when necessary.
Resolve conflict, miscommunication, and field friction quickly, professionally, and with a steady hand.
Own Safety, Quality, and Accountability
Enforce company safety policies and quality control standards across all project sites.
Lead safety training related to tools, machinery, equipment, protective gear, site protocols, and safe work practices.
Ensure crews understand not just what needs to be done - but how to do it safely, correctly, and consistently.
Oversee the organization, implementation, and follow-through of safety and quality standards on every project.
Protect the Budget and the Schedule
Monitor project budgets and financial targets, keeping production aligned with cost expectations.
Review, approve, and negotiate change orders while balancing project requirements, client needs, and budget constraints.
Track issues that could impact cost, schedule, manpower, equipment, materials, or client satisfaction - and drive solutions before they become excuses.
Be the Field Leader People Trust
Serve as a primary point of contact for project-related discussions, jobsite challenges, complaints, and construction issues.
Lead regular meetings with project teams and clients to communicate progress, resolve issues, and keep everyone aligned.
Read and interpret drawings, plans, and blueprints, then translate that information clearly to Foremen, crews, and stakeholders.
Maintain compliance with Alpha policies, procedures, project requirements, and applicable regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
What You Bring
You are a field-tested civil construction leader who knows that great projects are built by great teams - and great teams need clarity, discipline, trust, and leadership.
Required Experience
Minimum 5 years of successful, progressive experience in heavy civil construction required.
Proven ability to oversee civil construction activities, coordinate field teams, manage production, and drive safe project execution.
Experience reading drawings, plans, and blueprints and communicating that information clearly to others required.
Strong working knowledge of project scheduling, crew coordination, field logistics, safety practices, quality standards, and change management.
Preferred Education and Technical Skills
Associate degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Word and Excel, required.
Proficiency with Mac Suite required.
Experience with HCSS, Adobe Acrobat, and HeavyJob preferred.
Leadership Mindset
You lead with urgency, but not chaos.
You hold people accountable without tearing them down.
You know when to push, when to listen, and when to get everyone in the same room and solve the damn problem.
You understand that safety is not paperwork - it is leadership.
You can move between the jobsite, the office, the client conversation, and the project meeting without losing the thread.
Most importantly, you embody:
Leading with Heart - You protect the crew, respect the individual, and lead in a way people want to follow.
Strength in Unity - You build alignment between Project Managers, Foremen, crews, and leadership.
Alpha Mentality - You take ownership, chase excellence, and bring solutions instead of excuses.
