Full Job Description
In this role, you will collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines to develop safe, reliable, and cost effective substation, transmission, and distribution structures, supporting utilities as they modernize and strengthen the electric grid. From conceptual studies to construction phase support, your work will directly impact how energy is delivered across the U.S.
What you will do:
• Lead the development of structural and civil site designs for substation projects, including steel structures, concrete foundations, equipment foundations, structural framing, and secondary oil containment systems.
• Perform rigid bus analysis and structural modeling using industry standard tools (e.g., RISA 3D, STAAD.Pro, LPILE, SAFE, SAG10, FAD Tools, etc.).
• Oversee design packages across structural, civil, geotechnical, and site components to ensure quality, constructability, and alignment with project goals.
• Drive quality control for all civil/structural deliverables, ensuring compliance with safety, reliability, engineering standards, and client requirements.
• Develop bid packages, construction drawings, calculations, and specifications that support competitive, well coordinated project proposals.
• Support project execution throughout construction by responding to RFIs, performing field assessments, and verifying the proper implementation of engineered designs.
What you will bring:
• Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution (required).
• Master's degree (MS) in Civil/Structural Engineering (preferred).
• EIT and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred).
• 8+ years of engineering experience in utility consulting, civil/structural design, or substation engineering.
• Demonstrated experience performing rigid bus analysis and designing substation structures and foundations.
• Experience leading design teams and coordinating across engineering disciplines.
• Background in field inspections, construction support, and compliance documentation.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and modeling tools such as RISA 3D, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAFE, LPILE, SAG10, and FAD Tools.
• Working knowledge of CAD platforms including AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit.
• Willingness to travel 10-25% for site visits, client meetings, or industry events.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
