  • Independently oversee multiple large projects, integrating engineering insights across disciplines.

Full Job Description
GAI Consultants is looking for a Civil Engineering Manager 1 to provide direction to the civil discipline, including delegation of tasks to engineering/drafting staff, preparation and checking of calculations, drawing development, preparation of deliverables, and budget tracking. This position requires coordination with Project Managers, and other discipline leads within GAI (such as mechanical, electrical, process, civil, and geotechnical engineering).

Job Duties:
  • Staff management duties include planning, mentoring, and coaching junior level engineering drafting and field staff.
  • Task management duties include staff planning, budget/schedule management, scope change management, quality assurance/peer reviews, report writing, staff mentorship, and client coordination.
  • Proposal preparation including scope and budget development and interdisciplinary coordination
  • Draft site reports, design narratives, meeting minutes, and project memorandums.
  • Collaborate with other engineering leads for resource and schedule management, performance of QA/QC peer reviews, and staff mentorship.
  • Independently conduct field condition assessments.
  • Performance of bid and construction phase services including responding to bidder questions, responding to Contractor Requests for Information, and submittal reviews, site visits, and verifying change order documentation.
  • Perform projects that are managed by other engineering leads.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work at heights over 25 ft.
  • Must be able to wear and work in Personal Protection Equipment.
  • Must be capable of leading, and training staff to perform field visits to client sites to obtain photos, physical measurements, view site conditions, inspect E&S controls,
  • perform infiltration testing.
  • Ability to work independently and direct/oversee engineering and drafting staff on a project basis.
  • Possess strong communication skills that will allow for a collaborative environment with other engineering disciplines.

Minimum Years of Experience
  • 12+

Education
  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering, master's degree or Equivalent Experience Preferred.

Certification/Licensure
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Performs advisory or consulting work for the organization across broad project areas or within a specialized area with innovative/complex aspects.
  • Assesses practices and requirements to achieve sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective.

Project and Task Management
  • Oversees multiple large or multidiscipline project teams.
  • Develops projects needed for accomplishing the objectives of the practice.
  • Evaluates project management plans for complex engineering projects.
  • Develops risk mitigation plans to address project risks.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of leaders and teams.
  • May manage projects, up to $250,000 in yearly value, without GAI President's approval, but is a small component of overall work.

Management Responsibility
  • Receives general administrative direction.
  • Develops organizational strategy for staff development through mentored experience, continuing education, and self-development.

Communication Skills
  • Negotiates critical and controversial issues with leadership. • Represents the organization at important functions and conferences.

Salaried Rate Pay Range: $110,000-$160,000
Pay is based on applicant's ability/experience and will be rated accordingly.
