Join AECOM's Highway and Transportation Design Team in Roanoke, VA as an experienced Civil Engineer - Transportation Design. AECOM's Roanoke office delivers some of the region's most exciting and impactful transportation projects, offering engineers the opportunity to be involved with high-visibility transportation infrastructure projects. In this role, you will contribute to a wide range of engaging and complex projects, including roadway and drainage design, highway and bridge improvements, traffic engineering analysis, and transportation planning studies. Key Responsibilities • Develop design criteria and produce roadway geometry, traffic control plans, signing and pavement marking layouts, drainage systems, and stormwater management solutions. • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for transportation projects. • Create technical reports, tables, and graphics in accordance with client requirements and AECOM standards. • Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support design decisions and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards. • Follow and promote AECOM quality assurance procedures. • Conduct site visits and field investigations to gather data and assess existing project conditions. • Prepare presentations to communicate technical findings, recommendations, and constraints. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to meet project scope, budget, and schedule requirements through responsible and ethical decision-making. • Support AECOM project managers and department managers with project execution. Qualifications Minimum: • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline, plus four (4) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. • Demonstrated experience using Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D, and/or similar highway or transportation design software. PREFERRED: • Design experience with VDOT projects • Experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on Roadway, Drainage, and Traffic projects • Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff • Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work schedule environment with hybrid teams • Professional Engineer (PE) License in any state, or ability to obtain PE within 1 year of hire • Degree accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET Additional Information • Relocation is an option for this position • We are interested in every qualified candidate eligible to work in the United States.
