This position will work out of our Miami, FL office.

Summary

This position will have the opportunity to work within the WSP Miami Offices, a team-focused local environment. The selected candidate will work with FDOT and local municipal agencies on a variety of projects on a regular basis. Existing relationships and experience with FDOT are beneficial. This position is an excellent opportunity for personal growth and advancement in our industry as well as building your relationship within the WSP organization on a regional and national level. The Civil Engineer should have experience in leading research, conceptual development, design, and constructability of roads, bridge structures, drainage systems, and ITS. Other tasks may include generating accurate and concise training and workflow documentation regarding standardized design software and specifications. The selected candidate(s) will work on State owned projects on a regular basis, as well as with municipalities and local governments. Experience with FDOT and/or Ports projects is beneficial. This position is an excellent opportunity to continue to enhance design and production skills and build relationships within WSP as well as with a large number of clients around the state.

The Civil Engineer should have experience in leading the design of civil, highways, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, multidiscipline coordination, and TCP considerations on traditional and/or alternative delivery projects. This position may function as the lead engineer for FDOT projects and local agency / municipal clients. Responsibilities may also include project management, contributing on pursuits, maintaining client relationships, design and QA/QC. This role will be a key contributor in managing daily activities of our Civil/Highway group.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in leading and continuing development of the Civil/Highway design team.
  • Providing guidance and mentoring of staff and direct work assignments.
  • Collaborating with leadership to determine long-range plans and objectives, including recommendations on project staffing.
  • Lead project tasks for conceptual and preliminary engineering and final design activities, as well as development of construction plans, calculations and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, drainage, traffic, and utilities, etc.
  • Participate hands-on in the preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).
  • Review, monitor and/or develop complex layouts, sketches, plans, specifications and estimates standards and guidelines, correspondence, and/or prepare reports.
  • Develop 3D design models, calculations, sketches, plans, and estimates for various transportation improvement projects under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Verify the characteristics of a site and provide technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues.
  • Perform basic professional civil engineering work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multi-discipline team of engineers to execute project work on various projects.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with design teams on FDOT and municipal projects (civil, highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, and structure design).
  • Fundamentals in Engineering Certification (EI/EIT)
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Developing skills in project and staff management experience on civil transportation projects.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, OpenRoads).
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineers License
  • Experience with FDOT and/or Ports projects
