Full Job Description
Civil Engineer IV

This senior level engineering position takes on the role of project leader, responsibility for planning, design and project management of major and/or complex projects, with overall responsibility for execution and profitability of the project. Upholds the standards of the profession, client and firm. Serves as the primary contact to an assigned list of clients and is involved in business development of new clients, supporting the firms marketing program. Division of time is roughly as follows:

Responsibilities:
Serves as project engineer/manager for multiple concurrent and complex projects

Serves as designated client contact for multiple clients, developing contacts and leads, following through on possible projects and converting leads into new work.

Recognized as an expert in the civil engineering field both in client and public presentation and internally by providing leadership in the training and development of junior staff.

Defines the engineering solution to clients' problems and coordinates the firms' resources in designing and constructing the solution.

Prepares proposal estimates of time and expense required to complete the project, presents the proposal to the client.

Prepares engineering studies and design for new systems and analyzes operation of existing systems.

Assigns duties to project team, monitors progress and checks accuracy of completed work along with accuracy of time sheets and billings.

Coordinates engineering resources on multi-disciplined projects.

Responsible for fulfilling the contract between the firm and the client, maintains close relationships with client throughout the project, providing status reports as needed.

Monitors budget and schedule, requesting assignment of additional resources as needed to meet commitments.

Assists client in negotiating and selection of contractors, directs pre-construction meeting, monitors construction either through regular visits to the site or supervision of staff assigned to observation, and evaluates construction schedules/progress to anticipate delays.

Coordinates project documentation to provide a clear and accurate record of construction.

Sees that shop drawings are reviewed in a timely manner, partial payments are made and change orders approved.

Coordinates activity between field observation personnel and production staff in matters of additional drawings, as built drawings, samples, equipment and shop drawings.

Responsible for accuracy and quality of all technical work.

Exercises care to minimize property/equipment damage and fully understands and cooperates with the firm=s Loss Prevention Program.

Promotes the success of the team through individual initiative, cooperation to achieve common goals and accommodation to change.

Other duties as assigned.

Reports to:
Reports to the Principal in Charge of the assigned project and to the Office Manager.

Authority and Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervises junior staff assigned to the project.

Qualifications:
Must have degree in civil engineering and be registered in the state in which you work. Must have at least 12 years experience since registration in project design and demonstrated ability to manage a project team of interdisciplinary professionals. Must have the ability to utilize computer systems as a tool to effectively manage projects. Must understand CADD operations.
