Full Job Description
We9re looking for a Chief Technology & Product Officer who understands that in behavioral health, technology is never neutral. Every workflow, every interface, every API decision either adds to or subtracts from the emotional bandwidth of the people doing the hardest work in healthcare. That means using automation and AI to eliminate repetitive, low-judgment work so clinicians can focus on the human moments that define great care - anchored throughout by data privacy, security, compliance, and reliability.

This role is:

  • A full executive seat owning product, engineering, IT, security, compliance, and our physical footprint - scaling and uplevelling these functions to match our growth velocity.
  • Accountable for the full surface area of Brightline9s technology: family-facing, clinician-facing, partner-facing, and internal.
  • A disciplined build-vs-buy-vs-partner strategist with a framework and the conviction to defend it.
  • A hands-on leader who moves between board-level strategy and technical architecture - managing technical debt, integrating our physical clinics with our digital stack, and deploying secure IT infrastructure.
  • A leader who treats behavioral health as a distinct, high-stakes domain where clinical excellence, data privacy, and regulatory trust are inseparable from delivery urgency.

Why This Role

Behavioral health technology is at an inflection point. The question is no longer whether AI belongs in the field - it does. The question is whether it drives better care outcomes, or is just measurably faster. Today9s clinical tools range from genuinely transformative to quietly debilitating, often built for billing rather than healing.

Brightline has an opportunity - and a responsibility - to build differently: making deliberate calls about what we build ourselves because it9s core to our clinical model, and what we acquire because speed and quality warrant it.

Brightline9s model is care delivered by people, powered by technology. The human clinician is the centerpiece - the irreplaceable relationship that drives outcomes in a Family Mental Health Home model. This role exists to make that clinician more capable, more present, and less burned out.

This is a rare role where technical excellence and clinical empathy carry equal weight, across every stakeholder - child, parent, clinician, operator - each of whom experiences the care journey differently. The measure of a successful product sprint isn9t throughput; it9s whether a family received seamless support while the therapist ended their week more supported than when it started.

If that9s the product leader you are, we want to build this with you.

What You9ll Own

Four interconnected domains, sequenced under a single product and technology vision:

Family & Patient Digital Experience - The front door and ongoing journey for every family: Connect, our digital content library, digital interventions and assessments, appointment management, and BrightLife Kids. You9ll re-envision how families discover and benefit from Brightline outside synchronous sessions - progress tracking, digital assignments, the full wrap-around experience - treating this consumer-facing surface as a clinical product measured by engagement that translates to outcomes, not a marketing one.

Provider Tooling & Care Operations - The everyday tools clinicians and care teams rely on: ambient scribe, EMR, clinical notes, scheduling, patient chat. Every minute returned here is a minute given back to clinical judgment, patient connection, or the clinician9s own life. You9ll treat documentation burden, context switching, and opaque workflows as patient safety issues, and own clinician experience as deliberately as we own patient experience.

Partnerships & Operations Technology - The systems that make Brightline a credible operator at scale: revenue cycle management, claims and payments, scheduling infrastructure, payer integrations, and interoperability with external EMRs and health system partners. You9ll define how Brightline plugs into the broader healthcare ecosystem without losing our clinical identity, and own the operational health of the platform - uptime, SLAs, and technical debt - as we scale across a growing multi-state footprint.

Internal Tech Stack, Security & Employee IT - The technology backbone of Brightline as a company: AI tooling, productivity platforms (Elios, Jira, Notion, and beyond), and employee IT. You9ll set the standard for how a modern healthcare company equips its people, and own our security and compliance posture - HIPAA, SOC 2, 42 CFR Part 2, and state-level behavioral health data requirements.

Responsibilities

Strategy, Architecture & Roadmap

  • Define and own Brightline9s multi-year product and technology roadmap across all four domains, in partnership with clinical, operational, growth, and finance leaders.
  • Lead the build-vs-buy-vs-partner framework; establish the criteria and hold the org accountable to the logic behind them.
  • Evaluate and prioritize emerging technology (AI/ML, ambient documentation, clinical decision support, interoperability standards) based on genuine clinical impact.
  • Own the technology architecture vision: scalability, security, compliance, and long-term data infrastructure. Assess current positioning and articulate our path to AI-native infrastructure.
  • Ensure AI-assisted and automation features augment clinical judgment rather than add new cognitive load.

Execution Across the Four Domains

  • Establish a deep, ongoing feedback loop with the clinical workforce to surface friction points and the moments tools help or hurt.
  • Run the technology underpinning RCM, claims, payments, scheduling, and EMR/health-system integrations; maintain a clear-eyed view of the vendor market versus where proprietary build creates lasting advantage.
  • Own the technology that makes operating teams more effective - clinic operations, workforce management, scheduling optimization - translating product vision into the systems that run a multi-state hybrid care model.
  • Own the financial performance of the technology and product portfolio.
  • Set the standard for responsible AI adoption internally - how we evaluate, deploy, govern, and measure internal AI tools.
  • Drive operational rigor across internal systems, including incident response and technical debt management.

Team & Executive Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and recruit a high-performing engineering, product, design, and IT organization.
  • Sequence roadmaps with team leads, translating strategy into quarterly execution with clarity on tradeoffs across the four domains.
  • Drive a culture of psychological safety, technical rigor, and responsible velocity; own accountability for sprint quality, incident response, and system reliability.
  • Serve as a full executive team member, contributing to company-wide strategy and decision-making beyond product and technology.
  • Translate complex technical concepts for board members, investors, and clinical leaders with clarity.
  • Partner with People & Culture on org design and talent strategy; partner with clinical and operations leadership to ensure technology decisions advance care delivery.
  • Represent Brightline9s technology and product vision externally with health systems, payers, and investors.
Requirements
  • 12+ years of progressive technology and product leadership, including 5+ years at the executive/C-suite level.
  • Demonstrated experience leading product and engineering in healthcare or digital health; behavioral health experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven build-vs-buy-vs-partner track record at a company navigating meaningful scale (Series A and beyond) - you have a framework, you9ve used it, you can defend it, and you update it when evidence changes.
  • Experience managing the full product lifecycle from concept through clinical deployment in a regulated environment.
  • Track record building and leading high-performing, inclusive engineering and product organizations.
  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR), EHR integrations, and HIPAA-compliant data architecture.
  • Experience with multi-site care delivery models - location-based workforce scheduling, practice management at scale.
  • Post-acquisition integration experience (products, platforms, or teams) is a plus.

Leadership & Mindset

  • Genuine empathy for clinical workforces, including the emotional weight of behavioral health delivery, and the product instincts that follow from it.
  • Ability to hold strategic ambition and operational discipline simultaneously - building for where we9re going without breaking what9s working.
  • Executive presence that translates across engineers, clinicians, board members, and families.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and making high-stakes decisions with incomplete information.
  • A leadership style that models psychological safety, gives direct feedback, and develops people as deliberately as it develops the product.

Benefits, Perks & Stipends
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, Long-Term Disability, Life Insurance, FSA, and 401(k).
  • 12 Company Holidays + Floating Holidays, Holiday Shutdown, Flexible Time Off, Parental Leave.
  • Health and Wellness Stipend, Home Office Reimbursement, Professional Development Reimbursement.
  • Stock Options.

Brightline9s total rewards philosophy is fair, equitable, competitive, and geo-based - grounded in market research and input from across the organization, combining cash salary, equity, and benefits. In compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the annual base salary range for this role is $325,000-$365,000.
