Chief Operating Officer (COO) - CPA Firm

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Operating Officer to oversee the day-to-day operations of our clients CPA firm. Working closely with firm leadership and the Firm Administrator, the COO will help strengthen internal processes, improve operational efficiency, and support the firm's continued growth.

This is a newly created position, offering the right individual a unique opportunity to help define the role, establish priorities, and shape the firm's operational strategy. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who understands professional-services environments and can balance big-picture planning with practical execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the firm's daily operations in coordination with the Firm Administrator
  • Partner with firm leadership to develop and execute operational strategies
  • Evaluate current processes and implement improvements that increase efficiency, accountability, and profitability
  • Establish policies, procedures, and performance standards across the firm
  • Support workforce planning, employee development, and firmwide communication
  • Oversee administrative functions, technology, facilities, vendor relationships, and other operational areas
  • Help improve workflow management, resource allocation, and coordination among departments
  • Monitor operational and financial performance, identifying opportunities to control costs and improve margins
  • Support the implementation and optimization of firm technology and practice-management systems
  • Assist with change management and the adoption of new processes
  • Collaborate with leadership on long-term growth initiatives and strategic planning
  • Help define the responsibilities, goals, and long-term direction of the COO position as the firm's needs evolve

Qualifications
  • Significant experience in operations, administration, or executive leadership
  • Experience within a CPA firm, law firm, consulting firm, or other professional-services environment strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to improve processes and lead organizational change
  • Strong business judgment and understanding of financial and operational performance
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with partners, firm leadership, administrative staff, and accounting professionals
  • Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
  • Experience with practice-management systems, workflow technology, or firmwide software implementations is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field preferred
